The One Goal Thread

T

My goals today are:
- print out and edit second half of lit review
- remember to pick son up from school early!

S

My first goal is done. It took a while because I had a mid-morning gym break.

My next goal is to edit another section.

S

Second goal is done. My methods chapter is starting to look pretty good (well, satisfactory at least!).

I am going to finish off by responding to the reviewer comments on a paper. I'm aiming to have them all addressed and sorted by the end of the day.

I'm achieving nothing today. Think I'm still not feeling that well. But I have to write this paper by Monday and have only managed two paragraphs so far today! This is really really not good.

S

You can do it! If you really are achieving nothing because you're not feeling well I'd personally take the rest of the day off and use my time wisely relaxing before blasting it over the weekend. Think of it as using your time more effectively, rather than half-working and feeling fed up with it all by tomorrow.

I'd second that. Great advice! (up)

Yeah, maybe. It's the advice I'd be giving to someone else so I probably should follow it myself! I'm just daunted by how much there is left to do. And I took yesterday off for the same reason. Oh well, I'll do some easy note-making I think and then call it quits and watch rubbish TV or something before an early night. Thanks, anyway!

Morning! My first goal for today is to finish off addressing the reviewer comments on my paper.

Morning.

My first goal is to finish the section of the paper I'm writing that I began yesterday.

S

Good luck Batfink!

My first goal is done, which feels good! My next goal is to print and fill out my intention to submit form (which entails deciding on the title of my thesis...).

S

Form and thesis title sorted out. My next goal is to address the comments my supervisor made on a draft chapter.

T

My goal hasn't changed as I only managed the printing out part! Editing still to do (maybe tomorrow as today is a bit busy).

Finished the section I was writing yesterday and am now half way through another section. Trying not to think about how much there is left to do! I'll just have to do what I can in the time I have.

I don't have to fill out one of these; I've actually never heard of such a form. Is it normal practice or uni-specific?

What I do have to do if I want my viva to fall naturally two or three months after I submit is get my exam board sorted by the last faculty meeting of this academic year. Apparently that's sometime in June. I expect to submit during the summer so I have to get the exam board sorted soon. It adds to the pressure 'coz if you have a hiccup the uni effectively has to notify the external and say that submission has been delayed and thus cancel the viva which sends alarm signals to the external I would imagine :-(

Hi ady,

I know very little about the process but at my university you have to submit an intention to submit form and I think you do this about three months before you plan to hand in.

Hope this helps.
