Hi All,
Late start today :$ I spent up until 2am reading a website with funny emails, probably not the best way to get the thesis done! Anyway, I'm at the stage where I'm re-working, re-worked work and I hate it, I'd much prefer, really to just write it all from scratch, but it has to be done.
Goal 1: re-read what I wrote yesterday to get my mind back in the right place
Goal 2: Main goal for today is to finish 2nd huge section of lit review - this means stealing literature from one of my chapters, which I don't wnat to do but sup said I must, so I guess I must :-s Just waiting to see how thin and short the chapter will be when I've done that! I guess that's for another day though.
Good (late) morning, all you one goalers. :-)
I'm not sure what my first goal should be ... I'm waiting to hear whether the ethics committee has approved my study. I have a feeling they want to make major changes. :-( And as I have major doubts about my ability to recruit participants and feel I'm really behind anyway, I'm not too cheerful at the moment. (sprout)
Hopefully I will hear about the ethics by lunchtime, but I'm finding it impossible to concentrate on anything by then. Ho hum. I'd better get on with it. So, first goal: go back to section 3.3.4 of my lit review and keep rewriting.
I hope you have some good news this afternoon Moonblue.
I have now more or less done my first goal. My next goal is to begin drafting out a job application. I'm hoping to make fast progress with this so I can feel good about leaving things for a long weekend!
same thing every day - I mess about all morning, and then suddenly my mind becomes calm and I can get on with it. WHy is that?? wish I could start work sooner every day!
I hope you all have a go at the Google homepage guitar before the end of the day. It's been spreading round my office today, little strums being heard from different corners. Aaaaaawwwww.
Good supervision meeting this morning. Goals for the rest of today:
1.) Draft wording of cover email for questionnaire
2.) Reply to journal about request to be reviewer (woo!!)
3.) Plan out work for between now and summer school in 2 weeks
4.) Start designing poster
Thanks, it's such a relief! I had convinced myself that I would have to change everything.
Still very concerned about recruitment though ... Gah, working with plants (in a previous academic life) was so much easier. No need to worry about ethics committees or recruitment. Though I did have one year's work destroyed by flies once. (sprout)
congrats Moonblue! I once tried to grow a basil plant - it was going really well, for about 3 months :-) but then it got these little flies all over it and it died. I've never tried to grow anything again, and have since gone out and bought a hedge trimmer so I get my hubby to cut anything down that attempts to grow in my garden so I'm not faced with the responsibility of keeping it alive. :p
my mother in law entrusted me with the gardening when she gave us the house (don't worry, she gave us the full mortgage to pay off too, in fact she remortgaged it in our name for more than she paid, anyway, I digress) and she said I must pull out the weeds. I asked how I could tell which ones were weeds, as I'm not garden-savvy. She said that weeds are ones that haven't been planted. I hadn't planted any of the plants, so pulled them all up :p
Not so much done today as hubby is one leave and we took a trip into town as kiddies were with childminder. That meant giving up a study afternoon and a trip to the gym, ho-hummm. Anyway, this evening Ch 3 is all read through and 'post its' applied as necessary. Now onto ch 4.
had an awful day today, couldn't get focussed, just restless. I've just managed to do a paragraph though, which is RUBBISH but at least something done! I promised my sup that I'd send her the first 3 chapters (out of 6) by sunday, so I really need to get this chapter done tomorrow really - I need about 1 day work on the other 2.
Hopefully I will wake up and be able to do load of work tomorrow.
