well, its only bits and pieces but its something for the CV :-)
Stuck trying to find examples of my analysis - seem to have lost all of my Nvivo files :$
That's great Sneaks!
My first goal today is to make a few changes to my job application and to email it off.
Odd day today. I have to go out at 12-2 for a discussion/interview/meeting about this other role. After that I have to come back and iron 5 shirts and then drive them up to london, leave them there, collect husband, drive him back so basically 2-evening is a no-go for PhD work.
So goal 1 before 12 = to get part of the analysis section done - and yes, I am STILL working on the analysis section :-(
Sounds like a busy day Sneaks.
I have now submitted my first job application. :-)
I would really like to get one analytic chapter edited and thesis ready today but have stuff to do for another job application so we'll see. Anyway my goal now is to get as far as I can with the chapter.
job applications are a nightmare aren't they? my hubby has banned me from doing them now - he says get the thesis done, handed in, then apply, as I was spending weeks doing cover letters and interview prep etc and then not getting jobs.
A question: any opinion on 'boxes' in the thesis? I want to put in an exampe of an interview transcript e.g. 200 words and how I coded it. In a textbox I think this would be ina box e.g. 'see box 1'. - or is it a figure???
I have figures and boxes in mine (and a few tables!). I'm using grounded theory and a large part of this is the use of memos. Some of these I have included in boxes and I just call them 'Box 2.1' etc. I also have some ethical thoughtboxes which are supposed to read like 'asides' - my supervisor's idea and actually they work well. Wish I'd thought of them!
What do I have in my figures? A few screenshots and some GIS maps I have drawn up.
ooh I like the ethical boxes!
So the box thing is fine - I'm pleased because I'm describing the analysis and wanted to put an example in, but didn't know where to put it in the text, so just saying "see Box 4.1 for an example of coded text" will be great :-)
Hello all!
I've been AWOL for a good couple of months now (becoming a wifey etc), but I have a serious deadline next thursday and I just can't get back into work mode. I actually don't even want to get back into work mode, and that's really unlike me. But I must, so I'll set a few small goals for today, to ease myself back into everything:
Goal 1- go over intro
Goal 2- learn theory section so I can talk confidently about it (eek!)
Goal 3- go over piloting and preliminary findings
I also think good old mytomatoes may be in order too!
So much for having my chapter thesis ready. I realised I'm still not happy with it so have ended up starting to rewrite half of it. Gah. I'm leaving it for now to spend a couple of hours on another job application.
