The One Goal Thread
Morning all.
My goals today are to submit another job application, submit a journal article and address the minor comments my sup made on a chapter. I'm hoping none of these things will take me much longer than an hour so that I can feel all smug by lunch time!

I only worked until 2pm yesterday which is rubbish, but not too bad for my first day back after so long off. So I need to get a couple of hours done this morning whilst hubby is out.
Goal 1- finish going over presentation
Goal 2- learn intro
Goal 3- Go over review work

My first goal of the day: sort out my Endnote references. For some reason I suddenly have lots in the 'unfiled' section - and I don't remember adding most of them. :$ Can Endnote automatically add the whole references from one paper? Well, maybe not automatically, I obviously must have clicked the wrong thing. :$ But can you add all the references from one paper to Endnote in one go?
Welcome back Button, many congrats on your wedding! I also found it hard to get motivated post wedding/honeymoon so you are doing very well.
Moonblue, Endnote is a complete mystery to me, I had enough fun with Refworks, so I hope you get it sorted.
I have reviewed all of my thesis now and have a few corrections to do. Had a meeting with sup last night about clarification of some equations that are in our paper in my appendices but not in the thesis body. Was hoping to avoid these in the viva, but I think I have to crack my understanding just in case....:-s:-( So today I shall work on these equation questions and write up my meeting notes (inbetween playing with the bambinos as hubby is going out :-s).
Sorry Moonblue, I don't know anything about Endnote either.
Of course my job application took twice as long as I'd hoped. And I'm still not happy with a bit of it so need to have a think and come back to it.
My next goal is to prepare my journal paper for submission and hopefully get it sent off.
Also doing job applic this morning like you Star-shaped and yep, they take ages. With each one I say "I'm not going to take too long on this..." but I tweak and tweak and tweak...
Hard to concentrate as man outside on ladder fixing gutters, dog inside going bananas at strange man (well unknown, not that strange!) up ladder, daughter gone on road trip from Nice to Barcelona for weekend with six others in a mini van so hard to relax 'til she's safely back in Nice. Should be editing thesis not applying for jobs I'm not going to get:-(
Keep going Dunni, you're nearly there (up). Equations are white noise to me but I'm sure you'll crack it.
Endnote references sorted ... It really looks like I somehow managed to download all references from one paper. I doubt I'd be able to do it if I tried. :$
Next goal ... ummm... how to beat procrasination? Oh dear, I'm not very productive this morning. :-( I'd better sort through some paperwork, all my papers are in a real mess and I can't find half of them. (sprout)

Well I have written some meeting notes from last night over coffee. I have realised how disinterested my sup seemed to be during our tutorial, I guess now I have submitted they no longer feel committed to this. Oh well, about to put two bambinos up for nap so will try to get some equations done with the eldest toddler bribed with toy story :$
Ady, glad you have found some peace and quiet for further tweaking. How is the thesis coming along following sups comments?
A bit of bribery in order Dunni (up). That's disappointing for you that you sense your sup not retaining interest in your work. People can be quick to move on and yet the process is not finished for you. However, maybe it's a compliment of sorts in that he feels you don't have much to worry about thesis/viva-wise.
My revision is coming along okay. Have revised chapters 1-4 so now 'just' chapters 5-8 left. He told me he thought it would take me about about a month but I think I'll have it done in about three weeks. Then probably a month for him to read it, based on passed experience and then (fingers and toes crossed), another edit and it's ready September, August if I dare to dream!
Thanks Ady, I think my sups feels that the thesis is robust and the viva a walk in the park (if only). Ok bribery deal done, but not sure this will work beyond about 15 mins.....we will see!
Ady, your progress is excellent! An impending submission does loads for motivation so take full advantage lol. Sounds like you will have the corrections done in no time and hopefully your sup will be able to read it a bit quicker next time around :p I see a summer submission just around the corner, woohoo (up)

I'm feeling a bit rubbish after some crap news this morning and, together with having no motivation after getting married, I don't feel very productive! But I need to crack on.
Goal 1- practice intro
Goal 2- prep for meeting
Goal 3- practice presentation
Goal 4- sign up for publication alerts
Goal 5- start working out what an earth I'm meant to do for my upgrade
All of that shouldn't take too long, so I'll report back with my progress shortly!

Button - hope the news wasn't anything too bad, and that you get into the work okay.
This week I'm mainly killing time while I wait for the two organisations I'm studying to launch my questionnaires for me - I don't have access to their email systems to send the things out, so that's down to them, and seems to be taking ages. Oh well. I'm off to Summer School for a week on Sunday, and after that I'm straight off on holiday for two weeks, so this week feels like a bit of dead time really. I have to design a poster to take with me to Summer School, and I'm going to do some work on the structure of a journal paper, but that's kind of it for the week! Time to clean my flat from top to bottom I think.

I have spent the morning doing job stuff. Just as I submitted 2 applications and was looking forward to some thesis time with no distractions 2 other posts have come up to apply for- a lectureship in my department (eeek!) and an RA post in my specialist area. It is good that there are opportunities out there but I get distracted too easily by these things!
My goal for the rest of the day is to forget about job stuff and concentrate on getting a data chapter thesis ready.
