phew..goals one and two are done!! feel alive again.
goal three is progressing, will break it into bits using tomatoe.com...
Ady thanks for that, I think sometimes midnight works sometimes day works.. it just depends..
Well done star-shaped I cant wait for my first interview:-) , but first things first .. submit thesis.....
all the best everyone (up)
Morning everyone. Thanks for the positive vibes.
My first goal today is to do more preparation, before my OH grills me in a mock interview at lunch time (only got 4 days notice, including the weekend so couldn't arrange one with the careers service!).
This is the week for panic!
My first draft is due in on friday. So by the end of the week I need to..
- read and re-write bits of lit review
- do changes to the method recommended by walminiski
- add any changes I've noted down to the other chapters
- draft out a discussion chapter (sup only wants bullet points, but I'm tempted to write more because I reckon this is the only time when she'll read the entire thesis in one go, so want to make sure she thinks I'm pulling out the right stuff).
- get my formatting as good as possible.
So first goal today:
- read lit review and note down anything that springs to mind.
Good luck Sneaks, sounds like you've got your head in the right place to sort this all out.
And good luck star-shaped too, hope the interview goes well.
Today, I'm waiting to hear that the second organisation I'm studying has launched my survey, and also whether the first organisation has approved the last minute changes they insisted I made and are ready to launch next week. I'm also really tired after sleeping badly for the last few nights (nightmares!), so not sure how much other work I'll achieve today. Maybe I'll concentrate on cleaning my flat and checking emails and leave brainwork til tomorrow!
I seem to have 2 main probs with my lit review.
1) I don't have research questions - do I need them? I'm assuming I do? - I obviously have 'the aim of this thesis...' but not specifically 'research question 1 = ....'
2) I'm finding it hard to work out whether its rubbish or good. Sup 'read' (i.e. flicked through to see what each title was) the lit review 2 months ago and all she said was "there's a lot of what, but not enough why" - great. So I'm obviously going to add a whole section on the end, but not sure what else needs changing.
Also, I'm having an issue with my neighbours bamboo - I've decided that rather than wait for her to cut it, I'm going to go on a midnight round-up raid and weed killer it all without her realising and then blame the scorching sun when it all starts going brown. mwahahaha - now my brain is full of evil genuis plans about how to kill off her tree that's blocking out the light to my kitchen and not about my thesis :-s (the plan so far is to put copper nails in it - my dad said it would kill it off)
Sneaks , you are terrible.. you had me rolling with laughter.. with your evil plans hahaha!!! At least it is motivation to stay up late today working!!
I cant offer much help on the lit. review as yet .. but having clear research questions is really dependent on you the researcher .. because some thesis i have seen didnt have them and came across really well as they had clear arguments on the direction of thier thesis by only focusing on the aims of their research... Thats what I have seen!!
I have a few directional questions in mine, but I wouldnt say they are vital!!
hmm, my hubby had them in his, but mainly cos it allowed a few extra 100 words (it was short!) and allowed the whole thesis to be tied together e.g. chapter two addresses research question 3...
I only really have 2 - is that enough? argh! They're also really vague, but I guess that's what research questions are?
Walminski said I should have them as I'm supposedly a pragmatist and am therefore driven by the research qs rather than anything else.
Ok - so typing that made me realise I need them - but where to put them, end of the intro? end of the lit review?
So far today I have
- read lit review through
- changed entire section of lit review because I realised I'd just copied and pasted it from my chapter and left it in both sections :$
Next goal is to change another entire section that I did the same with another chapter :$
I now have one research question! (I've just looked at someone elses thesis and they only had one as well :-) )
Today's plan...
1. read through new lit review and try and work out what I was trying to do yesterday and if it worked!
2. make changes to method
3. add to discussion notes.
Morning! Today I am starting my final edits. My first goal before tackling my introduction chapter is to have a quick scan for jobs I might want to apply for.
Morning all,
I've had a bit of a slow start this morning. Didn't wake up until 9am, and I've been sitting at my desk for half an hour waiting for my computer to load, after I installed a stupid virus protection :-s I really need to crack on because I'm going away for the weekend on Fri morning, and need to analyse 3 interviews by then!
Goal 1- finished analysing s interview
Hope we are all doing okay today!
well I've done goal 1 - yesterday's efforts were obviously better than they seemed at the time! and now the end of my lit review is a lot stronger. I kind of wish I had a nice little model to demonstrate what my thesis is looking at, but its exploratory (well the first half) so I can't really say 'I'm concentrating on xyz variables'.
ANyway on to goal 2 - the method and walminski's comments.
