Today I am... printing off my thesis and handing it in for binding! I'm anticipating problems with the printing of some of my data extracts and the volume of stuff I'm printing but hopefully it'll all go smoothly.
Congratulations Star-Shaped! I'm extremely envious, as I should be where you are today! BUt instead I'm ploughing on with the lit review re-structure :-(
I WILL GET THIS DONE BY END OF SEP THOUGH!
Yay, star-shaped, that's great news! Hope the binding etc went smoothly.
I've been feeling ill again and haven't achieved much over the last few days. Having more tests at the doctors, and some tablets that are not doing my stomach any good, are really interrupting the work. Gah. But hopefully it'll be sorted out soon, and in the meantime I just need to battle on as well as I can.
I'm way behind schedule today, so will have to cut down my goals down:
1.) Finish reading through journal article and thinking about how to restructure it
2.) Email co-authors with thoughts about restructure and questions I need to ask them
3.) If there's any time left over, start reading some recent lit that may need including in the journal article
Congrats Star-shaped!! I hope printing went well and you didn't have any problems.
Things didn't work out very well yesterday so I didn't get to work on my thesis yesterday, which combined with the fact I didn't do half of what I was supposed to do the day before equals BIG trouble! Well, I'm here now so I shall:
1) get myself organized and prioritise what needs doing
2) finish amend my lit review
3) email sups
And then I'll review my goals again.
Anyone around or is it just me??? Well, at least weather isn't great this end so I don't feel I'm missing on much ;-) I only have two (but massive) goals for the day: to finish editing my lit review as it's been dragging for the past couple of days and start reviewing another chapter of my thesis. I've not got long to go so I'm super glueing my bottom to my chair.
I'm around. I'm trying to finalise a presentation for an interview I have next week. I'd also like to get on with my PhD but waiting to hear whether we're expected to go out ofr a birthday meal with my father in law today for lunch. really don't want to go, want to get on with the work, but whenever people don't go to these things it results in a 2 year non-speaking thing and everyone says its really disrespectful etc. (its kind of like the mafia lol), so really have to go :-s
Oh Sneaks, I feel for you! I totally understand where you're coming from. My family is the same, I have to go to family do's or I'll get disowned by ALL of them! I'm going to try missing my parents' anniversary's celebration next week though, I don't think it'll go down very well but I'm willing to risk it, I just can't afford to dedicate so much time to these things right now. I know they're important but so is my work! I've put too much time, money and effort and I just can't afford not to submit by the deadline. So I'm going to find the courage somewhere and say 'no' (or I might just text instead so I don't have to face the wrath! Although texting could potentially result on an even longer sentence.)
By the way, I know you said you were supposed to submit by this past week and now you're saying it's the end of the month. Do you have an absolute last deadline? I'm just wondering if you could give yourself a bit of a break and aim for that instead as it seems there are lots going on at the moment.

Well sup originally said next friday, but even she has forgotten she said this. my 'intention to submit' form says sep 2011. I'd like to get it in by end of sep. My main reason being is that I want to be viva'd before xmas so I can have my first xmas off for about 10 years! I'd hate to be sat there on xmas day thinking about my viva in 3 weeks time :-( also, if I am lucky enough to get this job, then once I start the work will be immense and I want to get the PhD done and dusted before it has to get put on the back burner for other work and then another year will pass by when it only needs a few weeks worth of work.
Hello skig, and whoever else is around!
I've been ill all weekend :-( and had to run around this morning to get some tests done at the doctors, so I'm only now sitting down to start work but already don't feel up to it. Not good. I can't really take the day off though - this illness doesn't look like it'll go away any time soon, and I have far too much to do (presenting at a huge international conference at the end of the month and haven't even started analysing the data for the results I'm supposed to be presenting!)
Oh well. The main job today is to work on the journal article I've agreed to co-author with my supervisor and another academic. They think it needs very little work but they don't really know the journal they're aiming for, and I can see all sorts of things the article needs to make it suitable for that journal.
Hi Batfink, I hope you're feeling better. Shame you couldn't take the day off yesterday :-( I Hope you're managing ok.
I have several goals today but they are all small as I'm doing little bits of everything everyday:
1) Continue amending one of my chapters
2) Add a few more things to another
3) Continue editing my results
4) Review introduction on one of the chapters
Thanks Skig. Still not well, and I have to go to the doctor again later this morning, but I'll get through it. I don't feel quite as rubbish as yesterday, at least!
Good luck with your work!
Goals for today:
1.) Try to get most of the work done on the journal article I'm co-authoring
2.) When I lose concentration on the journal article, start planning the work for conference presentation
