Hi all,
I did 3 bouts of writing today - 1 of an hour and 2 of 45 minutes. So that's good. I also heard I didn't get an interview for a one day a week post at one of my teaching unis. I had expected to so it was a disappointment. I had a good old cry and moan about it.
However, I have concluded that I will make the most of the extra time and really push for my PhD, something I haven't done for quite a while. So that I will enter the hall of fame sooner rather than later. And get an even better job.
Well done Enmaki! What a feeling, to get your chapter finished, it must be a lot like this: 8-)
THere are literally not enough hours in the day for me at the moment. Was up until 11pm last night planning out teaching, which I need to finish today really. BUt I also need to read through the chapter I finished yesterday and make final changes, and start the re-draft on the next chapter. I also need to format everything because if it goes to sup unformatted she always rips the content apart, whereas if it *looks* finished she tends to have far fewer changes. :-s
GOal 1: Read through chapter and make any changes (praying it reads ok as cannot stand to spend any more time on this!)
All by myyyyyseeeelf.... :p
I'll just type to myself anyhoo. Done read through. Now I'm going to make changes and add the document to the BIG thesis document. Then move swiftly onto next chapter.
I've been procrastinating :$ by reading through articles on the Meredith Kercher case. I've decided (with my extensive knowledge of the case :p ) that Amanda Knox definitely was there and probably killed her, in any case, she's definitely a sociopath.
Argh I wish I'd done forensic psychology.
I've also spent an hour trying to work out why my sup circled 2 sentences - no notes against them, just circled :-s
I've just found that my sup wants me to move a section from one chapter into the one I thought I'd finished yesterday :-s I'm going to try and get this done before 6
I'm still here. I've finished the move of the discussion. Hmm I said 6 but its now 8.30 :$
Am going to swig a mug of coffee and then get on with the teaching prep I have to do
stayed up til 1am last night doing teacher prep. I still have more to do, but need to leave for uni at 11.30 for a different thing, so have until then to finish off lecture slides and plan seminars.
Hello everyone, I'm back! The conference was great - met loads of people doing research related to my own, heard lots of v impressive talks by people I've cited a lot, and even managed to get through my own presentation and the questions afterwards without messing up. It was such a good experience. (And the few days in Amsterdam afterwards were a lot of fun!!!)
Today, I'm going to catch up on emails, send 'nice to meet you emails' to people from the conference, and then start to plan out what I think I need to do following the conference. There's a few papers mentioned by other people that I want to read, and then I want to plan out the work I'll do over this final year.
right, I've nearly done my lecture prep, I'm about to go to the lecture (run my someone else this week) to see what the group is like and if I can make my lecture for next week more interactive before putting it up online.
I need to work out a bit of admin and get changed from joggers into smart clothes I can be seen in!
Hi RLD1984 - I was lucky enough to be awarded a grant for the conference - my university is in a consortium with two other universities in my region to focus research on one particular topic, and the consortium has a handful of conference travel grants for PhD students. My university also has a central fund that PhD students can apply to, once during their PhD. And people whose PhD is part of a particular project tend to also have some funding in their project for conferences too, though I'm not part of a project like that. You just have to keep your eyes open for funding really, it's not always easy to find.
