Hi Everyone,
I did no PhD work yesterday - just back to teaching and then a bit of shopping in town, from which I got home at about 5:00pm, knackered. I meant to write in the evening, but didn't :(. Just made a lovely dinner of gratin and lamb cutlets, and then slumped in front of the TV.
Today I had a friend and her little baby round for lunch and then we went for coffee and German cakes at my fabulous local cafe this afternoon. I meant to write for an hour or two before she came, but spent the morning fussing over loo cleaning etc, bread buying and cooking etc instead. BUT I am now about to get some work done... So I will report back in a while. Speak then. Sneaks - you are so busy and productive you make me feel guilty...
I just did an hour and fifteen minutes of writing. A cup of de-caf coffe and then back to finish the second hour. I can relax with less guilt then...
Thank you Skig! I can't believe you've revised two chapters today... I revised ten pages.
I finished a second hour of writing. Wish it was going more quickly though. It's too late for me to write now, so I will wind down ready for tomorrow morning.
Eska, don't be so impressed, it wasn't the whole chapter, just parts of it. I didn't manage to do the second one in the end as a friend called with a crisis so I ended up spending 3 hrs on the phone...
The second chapter will have to wait till tomorrow now:-(
Good morning!
I've been having something of a lazy week so need to actually knuckle down and get lots done today. Goals:
1.) Write detailed to-do list
2.) Write plan of work for whole year
3.) Download journal articles identified while at conference
4.) Start on most urgent things on to-do list!

Goal for today: not to go MAD!
Thus far (this week) my uni-issued laptop keeps freezing, "this programme is not responding...", spontaneously keeps changing the language setting to French or Albanian or Chinese / my internet connection keeps dropping off caused, apparently, by interference from the SkyBox and so have had to disconnect Sky, reset internet modem etc etc / the upstairs shower leaking and water coming through kitchen ceiling / five of the downstairs lights blew a fuse / our home pc not working properly, lots of icons on desktop suddenly disappeared / the washing line fell over in the garden / Sky itself acting up, freezing and some of our series links deleted (separate from internet issue)
Apart from that, everything is fine :-s
Good morning everyone.
I'm about to start my two hours of writing - I will try work until about 12. See you later.
Good luck with your goals. (up)
I did an hour and ten minutes, not including short breaks, so willl finish the hour later today. Early lunch and yoga this afternoon first.
Well done Eska for your hard work!
Sorry things are not going well yr end Ady and I hope things improve soon;-) could it be that the laptop's memory is a bit full? That's what my old laptop does when it can't cope. Maybe emptying temporary folders/bin etc and defragmenting could help? Not sure about language setting and internet I'm afraid but I wonder if your internet provider might help if you call them about the issues you're having and just casually mention the non-connection issues 'because you're not sure if it's related' or maybe your uni's IT?
Batfink, you sound so relaxed!! I wish it'd rub off on me!! I'm soo stressed!
Finished my reviewing though. Goals now:
1) Have lunch - i'm starving!
2) Read through the revised versions of the two chapters I've been working on
3) Write a bit more on my introduction
4) Start revising another chapter
Morning everyone!
Skig, I am relaxed actually, feeling lazily unconcerned about everything, not sure that's a good thing but I'm enjoying it! I hope your stress lifts, that's not a nice feeling.
Yesterday I achieved about half of my goals, plus a couple of things I didn't actually write down as goals. I'm away for the weekend for my partner's mother's birthday party, so not intending to get into anything too complicated today. Goals:
1.) Download references identified while at conference
2.) Think about abstract and title for conference symposium I've been invited to take part in
3.) Look at comments received on rejected (ouch!!) journal paper and think about rewriting
4.) Prioritise some reading for the next couple of weeks
