Hi from me....
After a few days away from the forum, here I am again!!!!!!!
All these days I was working on the structure of my thrid analysis chapter (and trying to warm myself, as yesterday it was only 4 degrees in "sunny" Greece. Now it is a bit better, but still very cold).
I think I have managed to find a good structure (at least it seems good to me...) and today I will start writing....
Since I am really cold at my house (we don't have any oil for the central heating, because my landlord did not buy any, as he believed that we would have some "automn" time before winter......) I have decided that I will go in a coffee shop to study.... They have really good coffee there and they also give cheese pies with it!!!!!!!!!! (BUT I AM GOING THERE ONLY TO STUDY!!!!!!)
Good luck everybody!!!!!!
Have a pie Emmaki, you deserve it;-)
my head is literally nodding here, my eyelids are closing and I soooooooo bored :-( I can't believe how hard it is to keep up the motivation so close to the end. One might think that fear would keep me going, but it's not.
How does anybody proof for errors and typos. Every single time I read something I tweak, rephrase, tweak again. Do people print it out, read it aloud, what??

haha I know what you mean about motivation - I'd have thought I would be really pushing to get it done now, but I've taken over an hour out today to watch downton abbey, phoned my parents, talked to other people. I've sat for the last hour working on my lit review, but I'm bored. I really need to delete massive sections from it, but everything seems too important to chuck!
oh and I have printed out the entire thesis and am working on it in a ring binder - I'll change everything this week and then print it out again and go through it again, possibly once more after that too. That's what we did with hubster's and it didn't have ANY typos in it (up)
my lit review is currenlty 18,100 words long. It should be 10,000 words long.
Cut cut cut cut cut :-s
Hang on Sneaks!!!!!!!!! You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have just come home from the coffee house....I managed to work there, so I might go again tomorrow..... I managed to write 3,5 pages! I prefer to write by hand on notebooks and then type each chapter......
Hello everyone!
I've been really poorly so work had to come to a halt (I tried to do it in bed but it just wasn't working). That's the price I pay for overdoing it. I'm a bit better now so back at the computer but I'll probably spend less hours glued to it.
@Ady - thanks for the advice on the proofreading, referencing etc. I keep switching between one to another as I go along, but you're right, if I do one at a time then I'm more likely to get a uniform thesis.
@Sneaks - You can sooo do it! Keep up with the good work!
@Emmaki - well done for the great idea!
Goals for the day:
1) sort out my goals for the day
2) check emails
3) email sups
Have a good day everyone!
Morning everyone!
Skig, hope you're feeling better soon - and if you're ill again, don't try to work in bed, that's way beyond the call of duty!!
Sneaks, hope you've battered those words down to size.
I overslept this morning and didn't want to get up because my flat is freezing - looks like my heating isn't working again, it took my letting agents 11 weeks to fix it last winter so hopefully I can get it working without having to resort to calling them!
Today's tasks:
1.) Try to get the heating working!
2.) Work on the formatting of 2 SPSS files
3.) Work on abstract for conference presentation
4.) Prepare for this evening's AGM of voluntary group I chair
Hello everyone!
I have finally finished m porrige and tea and will be getting on with it from hence forth.
Sneaks: You will get there - and, indeed, seem well on the way already!
Batfink: Sorry to hear about your cold flat - perhaps a baked potato or similar in the oven from now 'til lunch will help?
And Emmaki: Glad you have discovered a new way to write more productively.
I'm at the stage with my draft where I need to include research bits, so must get on with reading and doing that. I will miss real writing though. Must get the research done quickly so I can get back to it...
So for today:
For topic (a) 1. Finish reading introduction of book and read important chapter of book and conclusion.
As this is a one goal thread I will leave it at that for now.
Best of luck everyone,
Esk X

I'm really not doing very well today (or this week, to be honest!) So far today I've only managed to upload a few articles into NVivo and skim read them. So to feel like I've done something a bit productive today I am going to re-read the comments on one of my papers that my supervisor sent me and address all of her comments by the time I finish for the day.
Here I go...!
Hey Lindalou, I hope your day gets better - and I hope the general quiteness of the thread means you're all doing all right today.
So far I've finished reading the introduction to the important book and read one chaper. I have also realised there is another chapter to read, which turns out to be 70 pages long. I hope to get the second chapter finished tomorrow morning before yoga. We will see...
I read for 5 1/2 hours today... blimey. I don't think I could have gone any quicker either, I had to re-read parts and took a lot of notes. I really hope I get this topic covered by the end of the week.
Good luck x
