Afternoon everyone!
I'm not sure if anyone signed up to that 'write your thesis in 3 months'? that Eska mentioned some time ago? After watching his webinar yesterday, I decided to switch my internet off for the morning. What a difference! No email, no fb, no forum but lots of things done! Ok, I miss the 'socialising' aspect but I've been able to do loads more! I'm very impressed and saddened by the realisation of how long I spent on the net when I should be working...
Moving on... I'm having lunch and then continue with my formatting, etc.
Hope you all have a productive day!
Hello everyone!
After 2 days strike and demontrartions (regarding the new austerity measures in Greece) that meant no work done (either "real" or PhD) I am here again....
So, my goal for today is to write another section of my 3rd analysis chapter!
Good luck to me and to everybody else!
I signed up to the three month thesis thing but I started to get a bit skeptical about his motives after I couldn't download that file! I managed to do a literature search this morning but I didn't finish going through all my supervisor's comments yesterday as they required more work than I anticipated! So I'm still working on that now but about to be distracted by the arrival of my fiance and small child! And it's half term now - I am so getting no work done over the next few days! How often do kids get school holidays these days!! I'm sure it wasn't like this when I was young...!
I was freezing last night, but luckily this morning doesn't seem quite so bad so far!
Emmaki, the situation over there in Greece just seems completely beyond my imagination - good luck to you and yours with getting through it, I hope something positive comes out soon.
Today I need to catch up on some of the work I've been too lazy to do over the last couple of days - I really have to knuckle down or I'll be behind schedule only one week into my new workplan! So, goals for today:
1.) Finish formatting 2 SPSS files
2.) Make progress on conference abstract
Good morning (just) Batfink et al,
I've spent the mroning faffing about on the internet looking for a book I need to get to the bottom of my topic - but there is no preview of it. I found just one chapter in PDF form, useful, but not the whole story. So now I must press on.
I did finish a lot yesterday morning, because I realised most of the stuff in the book wasn't relevant. But I have also realised that because there is a gap in the topic area, what I am doing matters more, so I need to read more widely than I had previously thought, but only another book or two - I think...
Today I will finish the second book chapter - and maybe start writing up my thoughts on the topic, but I think I may need the other material in its entirety to do so.
Good luck everyone, and good luck with pressing ahead Batfink. X
Gah, one of my variables is missing from my SPSS files, luckily a very unimportant 'specify other' response to one question that I can ignore, but it took ages to locate and then I had to re-do a load of formatting to get the other variables numbered correctly. So that took way longer than I wanted, and now I'm behind schedule! Oh well, I gave myself a fairly easy task for next week so hopefully I'll catch up!
Just going to make a few notes on my conference abstract, and then I'm done for the weekend! May do some work on Sunday, but tonight and tomorrow are time off. Yay!
Hope you all get through your work okay, and manage to get a break this weekend x
Just finishing for the day. I caught up with the 'big name' in th topic I'm looking at and feel I'm up to speed with their views. Next time I need to get up to speed with the broader picture on it - and then write up. Maybe I will do the research on Sunday eve, and write Monday morning, because I write best in the morning. But this will depend on degree of hangover recovery post-Haloween party.
Have a great weekend Batfink! And see you all on Monday - or Sunday... X
Hi guys,
May I please join the club? Tomatoes no longer work for me, 730 words for the whole day and not even half way near what I need to say. Cuppa coffee, heating is on, wind outside is near to the storm, but otherwise peaceful and quiet, no distractions. Why I am so slow? If I bumped into the wrong thread, please let me know.
Switching to potatoes and dreading the week ahead,
Rina
Hi Rina, 730 words in a day sounds all right to me...
I more than welcome you on the thread, but I am also a newbie here. Maybe if this thread gets over-crowded we could start another.
I have done no work today. Instead I've been coming to terms with having no running water in the flat - due to a leaking boiler with a faulty isolation valve - by watching X Factor and Toy Story 2; while planning meals which involve no water and minimal washing up, and by munching chocolate - a highly effective method of chasing my aquatic troubles.
Tomorrow I begin again. So see you then. x
Morning y'all!
Already 9.45am and I'm the first one to post here? Where is everyone today? I'm back using this thread today as I have a rare full day at my desk so want to make the most of it! Now then, where to start with my long list of tasks...
Goal 1. Write thank you card
Goal 2. Write meeting agenda
Goal 3. Complete interview transcription.
That should take me nicely to lunchtime me thinks.
hi MissPiggy - I'm SO busy at the moment, I've not even been logging on. But I want to get some proper goals done today. My stomach is painful though - I think I have a milk fat allergy, so hoping that doesn't annoy me too much today. I woke up in the middle of the night with sharp stomach pains and just had to lie there rubbing my tummy for 2 hours until I went back to sleep, no other symptoms, just sharp pains. hmm won't be eating clotted cream again ha!
Goal 1 today: STOP looking at things on Firebox and make changes to my intro for current chapter.
its amazing how productivity increase with a simple act of covering my feet with a dressing gown! (I am dressed - dressing gown is purely for feet coverage)
Right that's goals 1 - 4 ticked off my list. Muchos pleased! And that's even with a little internet procrastination thrown in!
Sorry to hear about your bad tummy Sneaks! I'm not good with milk either so I'm trying to stick to soya and oat milk and it makes all the difference. Might be worth giving a shot for a couple of weeks? And I hear ya when it comes to the feet issue too... I put a little sheepskin rug under my desk this morning as my tootsies, even in slippers, were way too cold to let me get comfortable. And voila - 4 goals later! :p
Now then, a couple more tasks then I'm allowing myself a quick run and a humongous lunch:
Goal 5: update field diary
Goal 6: draft email
Hi from me!!
