Hi Sneaks, I'm kind of here too, although I'm watching crap telly and trying to fend off a cold/flu thing with lots of sweaters etc and hot lemon at present. I plan to do some writing in about an hour or so - am hoping to finish a chapter re-draft, so I can start a final re-draft thing on Monday.
Good luck with your paragraph etc! See you later x
Hi Eska & MissPiggy!
I've done my first paragraph (whic his actually 3 paragraphs now), so I'm pleased. Now the REALLY horrible bit.
Say what I've found BEYOND existing research and how I've added - YUK!
my father in law is now here putting in radiators so although its a good excuse to stay hidden upstairs, it also means there's a lot of banging and "coorrrrrr dear - why d'ya do that!?" and "pass me the pipe" etc - quite loud
I'm getting there - I can feel the afternoon sleeps coming on though :-(
Hubs is also listening to football whilst doing heating, so him and his dad are doing lots of "GET IIIINNN!" shouting which is quite annoying
Hey!
@Sneaks: I am sure you can do it despite the noise! Try to cut it off (is there such an expression????)...
@everybody: Keep on going with your work!!!!
Today I was walking around sunny and warm London. It is strange, but in Greece there hasn't been any sun for weeks, not to mention warm weather....
So, no PhD work for me today, and I guess I won't do much tomorrow also...
I will start again on Monday when I am meetong my sups and I get feedback.....
Keep on going!!!!!!!
well I've been up and down to screwfix today as I was the person who purchased the radiators so have had to be there with my card to return them for different ones :-s
Just taken dog for a walk so may try and get in another hour to finish this off
Hi everyone,
I can't believe it... I did bog all yesterday, just slept under layers of sweaters and blankets sipping lemon. Then I woke at, what I thought was 4:30am all alert and raring to go. So I gave in at the presumed times 5:30 and got up. I started writing half an hour later and did 1 hour 45 mins of editing. And it was, in fact, an hour earlier! So I started working at FIVE AM, completely voluntarily. And I've done work BEFORE 7 AM. It worked really well for me actually, I may try and establish it as a pattern; although that will mean not watching late telly. I feel sleepy now though. I have to prepare a two hour session on research and essay writing for undergards before Wednesday, so will be doing that later, as well as picking up some references I generated earlier today. Why is it the further youo get with editing, the more there is to do?
I hoep you got your extra bit of work in Sneaks.
Emmaki, I'm glad you're enjoying the London sun and having time off. Sounds like fun, you deserve it! XX
Hah, Eska, the time difference threw me a bit this morning too, I was going to allow myself a lie-in but I'm awake and at my desk already!
Hello everyone. I didn't come to this forum all last week, I was ill and then working away from my laptop and then just too lazy to make myself focus properly. But this week it's all different again - this week I'm going to make some proper progress and put in some long hours, instead of just going on Facebook and other timewasting activities!
Goals for today:
1.) Finish rewriting conference abstract
2.) Register for conference and submit abstract
3.) Finish formatting final SPSS file ready to do some actual analysis!
Morning guys
Ah, nothing like starting the week with an early morning dentist's appointment, then finding out that you've been stabbed in the back by one of your sups while the other one simply washes their hands off the situation. I'm so upset right now it's not funny, but I'm trying not to think about it otherwise I'll just bawl...
So, upwards and onwards regardless:
Goal 1. Update field diary
Goal 2. Take notes following recent meeting
Goal 3. Arrange meeting with backstabbing sup for my weekly dose of being patronised and bullsh***ed (insert crying emoticon)
Hey Miss Piggy, sounds utterly cr*p. Sorry to hear about the supervisor trouble. But well done for getting on with it throught the tears. I think I would go utterly mental in your situation...
I've done 1 hour 45 mins of writing/editing this morning, so am making lunch: brocolli and blue cheese soup, hurrraaaahhhh! Then I must get on with the lecture prep I was having nightmares about last night. I dreamt that I had to teach two hours of maths and just freaked and bunked off it, despite realising later that I could have just got the students to do long division for two hours; hence getting the sack - in my dream only of course. Oh dear.
Good luck everyone x

Thanks for the kind words Eska. Luckily I was eventually able to offload to a colleague who noticed that I was clearly not happy, so now I feel a little better. She was well shocked when I told her what had happened but agreed that there was nothing to be done about my sup's outrageous actions on this occasion, I could only try and move on. (Still looking for a crying emoticon though - forum admin take note!)
On the positive side I've meanwhile managed to tick off my 3 initial goals and more, so now to set my final goal for the day:
* Proof-read interview transcript (this has been on my to do list for donkey's years, so it must must must be done today!)
Hope your lunch tasted as nice as it sounded and you got your lecture prep done ok. Nothing worse than having nightmares about work eh?
No one else using this thread no more?:-(
I'm trying to get some articles submitted for publication whilst I'm waiting for a date and I'm not getting very far :-( so I'm back for a little longer (and hopefully someone will join me?)
I've been working on this particular article and I'm really struggling to shrinking it so my first goal is to cut the first chunk from 1200 to 800 words. I'm hoping I'll get able to get this done before lunch.
Hi Skig, I've been teaching for a few days, plus a day off yesterday - hence my absence. But I'm doing some PhD stuff today, in between all manner of DIY and kitchen cleaning in readiness for a bommy night knees up at my place - which you are most welcome to attend.
So right now I am mustering the gumption to finish cleaning my fridge so I can put my recently purchased sausage supply etc in it. After that I will do some more editing, hopefully finishing a chapter. Did about 1 hour 45 this morning.
Good luck with your editing. I've no idea how I'd remove that much from a piece of writing! Are you going to recycle the remainder?
Hi Skig
I've been kind of avoiding this thread, because I'm feeling so behind on everything and don't seem to be meeting self-imposed deadlines at the moment! Not helped by feeling ill and tired quite a lot. But I'm slowly starting to get myself back on track, and feeling like next week will be better, so I'll be back soon...
Hope you all manage to get your work done! Editing stuff down is such a pain...
Hi all,
I've been absent of late. I started my new job and its hectic to say the least. I have A LOT of work to do for it, and have work to finish from my old job AND have to submit by the end of NOv. so LOTS OF PRESSURE.
I'm going to go home now, but I'll log on tomorrow to get some PhD done, even if its just an hour or two!
