Morning all.
I want to officially get the first draft of this chapter finished today! So all those boring tasks need doing.
Goal 1- edit interview schedules
Goal 2- edit i.sheets and c.forms
Goal 3- sort appendices and do list
Goal 4- sort figures
Goal 5- reference list
What a bore!
Morning,
Well my goal today is to carry on adding in the theoretical stuff which will probably take most of my day up! I had a terrible day yesterday but at least I tidied up what I've written so far!
Davies, I'm only managing to bash out that many words because I'm a social sciences based PhD and I'm working on my analysis chapters at the moment, so it's my work which I know inside out and can write lots and lots about. When I'm writing the theoretical framework stuff it takes me much, much longer and I'm lucky if I manage to get 300 words out! Which is why I'm struggling so much at the moment! I'd say my style is really different from yours Button, I find it really hard to know what I want to write about until I get going, if that makes sense? I kind of know what I want to say but I find it hard to articulate until I get some words down on paper! I wish I was as good at planning as you are!
Morning everyone.
That does sound like a lot of planning, Button - I wouldn't have the patience for it, but it sounds like it works well for you! I do plan my writing, but not that in-depth, it tends to take me, say, a day to plan a chapter and then four or five days to write it (assuming I know what I'm going to say and don't need to go away and do extra reading as I go along).
Today, I'm going to blitz through some analysis stuff, in preparation for starting my exciting new (to me) stats technique. Goals:
1.) Re-code variables to allow for analysis
2.) Carry out analysis on re-coded variables
3.) Plan out what further analyses I need to carry out in the light of the findings
4.) If I have time, start writing up the results
Oh I'm struggling so much at the moment, I'm finding it really hard to find references that are relevant and referenced properly, and that aren't massively vague! Change management is such a pain! Looking at the bumpf I've found so far it seems quite "trendy" and I'm finding a load of websites that basically have plagiarised other people's work so I can't even look at the original reference! Argh!
oh right I see - I am phyiscal science student so each sentence contains a number/reference in it so take ages to write. I have completed job 1 of 3 for today. Still got my 300 words to write this afternoon.....jeez can't believe this is my life for the next 8 months!!
All my variables are now re-coded, so time to get on with some testing. Making reasonable progress today, despite being distracted by the wetness of my feet after getting caught in the rain this morning - I really need to buy some new shoes!
Well done peeps, and hehe Batfink, a great excuse to go shopping if ever I heard one.
Oh... I am having a terrible week this week. I suppose I should be grateful I had a very good last couple of weeks but I am really struggling now. I've chopped a massive section out of my analysis this morning and put it in a different chapter so I've lost a significant amount of work! (Even though I've put it in another section so it's not really 'lost'!)
Hope everyone is having a much much better day than me!
Ah, One Goal Thread, I will resurrect you from page 2 of threads!
I was at a stats course at uni yesterday (about a 4 hour round trip so not really possible to do work whilst I'm at uni!) so I didn't get any work done so catch up day today. I don't really have a word count to reach today, I just want to have made some progress on wrapping this chapter up with a view to having it "finished" tomorrow or by the start of next week at the very latest. So here goes...
had a terrible day yesterday didnt get anything on paper at all...need to make up for it today and still haven't started! Aiming for 600-700 words by the end of the day.
Lol - batfink- funny because my shoes also have huge holes in them so just went out this morning to purchase some more.
Come on guys- i want to hear that you made progress by the end of the day....will keep you updated on my word count. here goes......
Same at you Davies - let's do this! I will report back at around 1545hrs (Going to pick up a new car this evening, exciting!) with some word count!
Haha the whole shoe thing - what is it about us PhD-ers and our shoes?! I've just discovered that the bottom of one of my boots is coming away from the sole so it now makes a squeaky noise when I walk! I will not throw them away though - I'll probably take them to a cobbler!
Anyway, I digress! I'm switching off now so feel free to chastise me if you see me pop up in users online at any time before 1545! Good luck with the words today!:p
Hi all!
I got out of my "real" job a little earlier today, so I'm starting working on my PhD half an hour earlier!!!!!!!! (up)
So for today:
1) Break analysis chapters into sections
2) Break section into smaller pieces (so that it's easier to manage writing)
3) Write at least 2 pieces (= 600 words) (I have a deadline at Feb 20 to send a whole chapter that I haven't even started yet):p
Good luck everyone! I will come later and update!
Hello,
Well here I am, back again! I've ended up having an extremely productive day - I really think being accountable on this thread helps so thanks to Sneaks for setting it up in the first place and to all you lovely PhD Forum peeps for posting and keeping me motivated! I've written a crazy amount of words today - in the region of 1,500 but a lot of what I've written has been written in my theoretical framework then integrated into my analysis so I've made great progress today!
Hope you've all had a great day too, see you all tomorrow - off to get our new car now (not like a brand new car, just new to us) (up)
