Hey Twanky!
I think it can be done, especially if you've already done the background reading and you're planning to work the weekend too! I think the maximum I've managed in a day was about 2,500 words, this was all analysis and I had the background reading written up and could quite easily cut and paste in. When I'm in the zone I can write reams, I just have to get there! I'm totally with you on the diet coke (up) it has helped me achieve many things! Failing that a few cups of tea go down quite well!
I've achieved goal 2, hurray! I didn't really think I was going to manage to meet my goals so I'm quite proud of myself today. I'm going to go and get some fresh air now I think, I've been cooped up in doors too long! Hope everyone else has had a good day :-)
Morning all,
Hope everyone is doing well today. As I've decided to put chapter 6 for one side for a couple of days I'm going to crack on and get some body into Chapter 7. I'd like to get some ideas down on paper today and if I could get a few hundred words committed then that would be an added bonus!
Hello all!
Just got home from work.....I'm a bit tired, but I will manage (I have to)!!!
Last week I was in London where I had my supervisions...I got feedback for one of my chapters, and now I have to revise the said chapter and hand it in on Wednesday..... So, I have a long weekend ahead of me......
Goal for today: Revise 1 section of chapter
Sounds good Emmaki! I'm having a bit of a lazy day today, but I have started my introductory chapter. It's(a bit of a deviation from this morning's plan, but I'm feeling a bit bored of writing analysis so I'm giving myself a break until next week from it.
Morning all,
I have a ridiculous amount of things to do today, because I'm off on holiday tomorrow for a week! So:
Goal 1- send 2 emails
Goal 2- update journal
Goal 3- finish and practice presentation 1
Goal 4- practice presentation 2
Then after that there is clean the house, pack, buy hubby's birthday presents, eeek!
Ooh, a holiday sounds good, going somewhere nice?
Today I have to run around sorting some bits out for two events tomorrow that have been organised by the voluntary group I chair. Looking forward to tomorrow but there are so many things to sort out so it's not a complete disaster! But I also want to make progress on the PhD work, as I won;t be working tomorrow.
Goals for the day
1.) Run some cluster analyses on my three samples
2.) Read up on a new method in two books
3.) If time, start planning interview questions
4.) Do all the jobs to prepare for tomorrow's events
Hello all,
I've hit a stumbling block with my writing up and am severely lacking motivation so thought I would start using this thread to get me going again...
Today's goals:
1) Plan next section of chapter
2) Start writing the section of chapter
3) Plan lecture for Friday (although this can wait until tomorrow)
And I need to do this without looking out the window because it is a gloriously sunny day here :-(
I'm so incredbly tired for a night of work, but the deadlines keep coming. So I thought I'd make my goals a little more public to motivate myself to keep going...
Just one goal for today - do a skeleton plan / v.rough draft of my quantitative analysis chapter.
I've had my head buried in qual methods for so long, I feel completely lost!
Morning all,
I've had the last two days off which were much needed after all the writing I've done since Christmas! But it's full steam ahead today - I need to get cracking now and get Chapter 7 properly started! I've got lots of areas to write about, I just need to get on with it today!
Tomorrow I'm going to go back and proof Chapter 6 so it would be nice to have made some good progress with Chapter 7 before then.
Hope you all have a good day, it's a shame it's cold and raining outside today but at least I won't be looking out the window wishing I was outside!
Its nice to see everyone writing up things that they need to do each day. This kind of self motivation is good to see :-) You definitely do it when you write it in a publi forum with a lot of people reading it; or atleast you try your best. Good luck to all and keep going!
Phew! Had a busy morning but I've made some good inroads into Chapter 7 today which I'm pleased about. I think it definitely does help to post goals on the forum, as I always feel bad if I log on and I haven't done any work!
I've been reading this thread for a while - particularly enjoying Lindalou, Batfink and Button progress...vicariously!
I figure I may as well start posting too. Have done nearly five hours today, but my goals for the afternoon/evening:
1. Finish writing conference paper, so that tomorrow I can do an edit.
2. Begin writing a paper (submission deadline is March 31st). I'm reworking a bigger piece of work, so it's more a case of framing the case and editing down. It will be my first submission so I'm not expecting it to be accepted and am viewing it primarily as a learning process. Hopefully one that will get me some feedback so that I can resubmit!
Heh, Lughna, I'm glad our thread has had some effect beyond keeping ourselves motivated! I find it really useful to list my goals on here - it helps me focus my work for the day, and keeps me going when sometimes I'd rather just give up and watch telly instead!
I've spent the last two days running around doing lots of things that aren't related to my thesis - Tuesday doing stuff for the voluntary group I chair (luckily that all went really well, big relief), and yesterday at a training course. I was going to get up early today and be on campus early, but I was so tired last night I decided not to set my alarm and just see how long I naturally needed to sleep. So of course I woke up late and am now working from home instead! Oh well.
Goals for today:
1.) Go through all notes and analyses to pull out bits I want to ask about in interviews
2.) Decide who I want to interview
3.) Send invitation email to potential interviewees
4.) Start designing interview schedule
