Batfink, I agree it's probably best to have to submit it today...even if it is an added stress. Otherwise you would be tinkering with it all week!
Today has been fairly productive so far; am nearly done restructuring a paper I'm writing and did some reading this morning. Also, went to the gym.
Goal for rest of day: print out and edit some hard copies of writing.
Lindalou, thanks for posting the powerball video. I may invest in one at some stage!
True, Lughna! It's sent now anyway, and it's no worse than it would have been if I had spent all week tinkering with it!
Back to work. For the rest of the day, I'm going to write up my notes from supervision meeting and then look at another conference abstract I need to write (as I'm on a roll with them now! Be good if I could get that one done today too!) That'll probably be it for the day. Tomorrow I'll get loads done.
Hello all,
Sounds like you all had a good day yesterday, I managed to get goals 1 and 3 completed so I am working on goal 2 today, which is my only real goal at the moment. I'm hoping that once I have a complete draft of my thesis I'll be allowed out to conferences again! I haven't been to one for over a year now :-( Anyway, here we go, have a good day :-)
Good luck with it, Lindalou!
I'm determined to make some good progress today. I started by going swimming this morning - that always invigorates me, and I've been feeling quite sluggish lately. Goals for the first part of the day (and I want to get these out of the way, they've been hanging around on my to-do list for the last few days):
1.) Go swimming - DONE
2.) Select potential interviewees from list of volunteers
3.) Draft invitation email and send to potential interviewees
4.) Email people who might be willing to pilot my interview questions
Once I've done that lot I'll see whether I can continue with drafting interview questions or whether I need to switch to a different task to make best use of my time.
Sounds like you've had a good start to the day Batfink! I'm struggling to stay focused today, I think I get to a certain point with some of my chapters where I just get fed up of them! I would normally take a break and work on something else but I really need to get this one finished in about a week or so (to allow time to tidy it up) so I need to get on with it! Argh!
Hope the chapter's going okay, Lindalou! I find that going through a Word document and adding notes in green (or some other colour) about what I want to add or change really helps me get through that kind of work.
Hmm, selecting my interviewees took longer than anticipated! Oh well, it's done now, and I have a reserve list in case of refusals/lack of availability, so that's good. The invitation is almost written so I'll get that finished and sent today. Then I'll probably spend the rest of the day doing admin type jobs. Thrilling stuff!
Lindalou, I take it your supervisor explicitly told you to give conferences a miss for the time being? I know in theory that makes sense - less distractions - but sometimes I think that have something else to focus on for a short period can actually refocus on your energy on the main project!
Today I've been editing 2 conference papers and am in the middle of editing a (considerably longer) paper. There's red pen everywhere! The rest of the day is reserved for actually making the changes to the documents on the computer.
Good morning,
She didn't explicitly say, you must not go, but I've been advised to just get on with writing for now rather than spend time working on abstracts/posters/presentations. It's difficult for me as I'm so far away from university that I don't really get out much with regard to my degree. I might see if there's anything happening though as it would be good to spend a day away and see what else is happening in my field at the moment! I think I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm the "wild card" PhD who was taken on to fill a place, and they're not sure if I'm going to pass or not (having a dark day today, can you tell?!) so they're encouraging me to write so I have more time to make amendments later on.
I'm going to crack on with Chapter 7 today, even if it kills me! I must get this finished in the next week or so!!! I might try writing in a different colour today to make it more interesting than just black and white! I also have a chapter to read for tomorrow (I was only told about it yesterday) so I will do that this afternoon. Hope you all have a good day!
Good luck with it Lindalou. Sounds like you are having some of those doubts today (I know those feelings only too well!) - I'm sure if there really were any problems your supervisors would have talked to you about them!
I was planning to wokr late tonight but just found out a friend from another city is in town - I haven't seen him for well over a year, so will give up the late working to meet up with him. But that means I need to get lots done during the day to justify the time off! At least I'm getting lots of positive responses from the potentials I invited for interviews yesterday - no refusals so far!
Goals for today:
1.) Quickly revise interview questions
2.) Carry out simple analysis on all 3 samples
3.) Plan next stage in analysis
4.) Read and comment on draft journal paper before tomorrow's meeting with co-authors
5.) Household stuff - shopping and post office, cooking, laundry, housework
Hi everyone, I'm back!
I've been away in a cottage with hubby for the past few days, it was great but over too quickly! However, I have come home with a horrendous cold, my head is all fuzzy and my ears are blocked, grim!
But I have LOADS to do unfortunately.
Goal 1- practice presentation
Goal 2- send presentation to uni
Goal 3- type up feedback from this morning and send to E and A
Goal 4- sort how to get future feedback
I've also just realised that I need to sort my car insurance which is due for renewal, thrilling.
Hi Button, welcome back! Sounds like you had a nice time, not jealous at all!!! Good luck with getting into the work.
I've made pretty good progress today - done all my goals apart from making notes on my journal article before tomorrow's meeting, which I think I'll do tomorrow morning. Now I'm going to make a curry - cooking and eating that may use up all the time I have before I need to go out! But that's okay, I'm happy with today's work.
Morning all, and welcome back Button! The lurgy has finally struck you Button, hope you feel better soon!
I was having a bad day yesterday in every respect so I gave up and went out for lunch with my step mum for a moan and a whinge! I feel better today!
Today's goals are:
1) Read chapter as instructed by DoS
2) Have supervision
3) Keep writing...!
Hope you all have a good day, today is a new day and I'm going to get cracking!
