Oh my god! Nightmare! No I suppose at least there is that, and I do have a little time to shed a few pounds before then!
Anyway! I have achieved Goal 1, waahoo! I am so pleased I've managed to get that done as I really like having a couple of days away from a piece of work before I submit it, to make sure it's not a pile of (turkey)!
So, on to Goal 2, my least favourite job of checking references. Very, very boring but essential! Hope you're both getting on ok - and Batfink, moving in with Mr Batfink eh? Are you going to be far away from the uni? It doesn't tend to matter so much at PhD though does it? I hardly ever go up to mine now unless I really need something as it's time I need to write!
Well done Lindalou - always good to achieve that kind of goal!
And Button, I hope you've managed to get your chapter read.
Moving in with MrBatfink, yeah. Sounds like a big step but isn't really, because he works away Monday to Friday so we only see each other at weekends anyway. But his flat is in the centre of the city that I live in the outskirts of (if you see what I mean) so it'll be an exciting place to live. And my university is in another town so I already commute (it's an hour and a quarter door to door, by train and bus) so all this move does is add ten minutes onto that journey. I can live with that! Especially as it'll save me a fortune in rent etc!
Anyway, I've done my first transcription, so time to get on with the second one now.
That's all good though, is it the first time you've lived "together"? I do remember you saying Mr Batfink was off to work elsewhere during the week, it'll be good being in the city though. We moved from the countryside to the town a year ago and although I miss the green it is nice being closer to civilisation!
I've collated my references now but I've just found our reference guidelines and I've got some of the recorded incorrectly, ARGH! I hate, hate hate doing references so I'm going to have to leave it for tomorrow now incase I throw something at the screen! I'm going to do some admin this afternoon, I've still got a few loose ends to tie up from my fieldwork so I will mostly be getting on with that after lunch.
Good work on the transcribing - you're making great progress (up)
Ooh yes, references are a pain!
My second transcription is done now, so that's the end of the work I set for myself. Time to go food shopping, then do some packing/sorting/chucking stuff out. Very happy to have got through those transcripts!
And yes, it's the first time I'll be living with MrBatfink, though we do spend every weekend together at the moment. I know it will be different when I don't have my own place to go back to, but really, timewise etc, it won't be that different. The biggest thing is making sure he gets to have lads' time with his mates when he comes back at weekends - at the moment I can tactfully leave him to it! Oh, and making sure I don't enjoy city centre living so much that I can't get my PhD finished!
Good morning!
Hope you are all well today! Good luck with the move Batfink, I think it's great that you're moving in together, it makes sense if you're seeing him when he's back anyway!
I'm going to be getting on with sorting out my references today, I am so annoyed that I've done it incorrectly, though the guidelines aren't really that clear when it comes to green/white papers so I don't know if I'm necessarily totally wrong! I wish there was just one way of doing references, it does annoy me slightly that there are different styles! Oh well! The good news today though is that I've had a library book out from a local university and I've just found out I don't have to take it back to the same campus (which is a pain to park on) I got it from, huzzah!
Goal 1: Find the missing info for policy references and add it in to the database
Based on the success I was having yesterday (i.e. none!) I think that will probably take me all day! :-(
Morning!
Ooh moving in with other half is exciting Batfink! And good news about your library book Linda, hehe!
I had a bit of a late night with a friend so have a banging headache today (only slightly self-inflicted), so I'm not sure how much I'm going to get done today, but I'll give it a go!
Goal 1- read everything written yesterday
Goal 2- edit section 6.2.1
Good luck today all!
Oh dear Button! I had a few glasses of wine last
night and forgot I'd left a glass in the front room on a radiator which is
underneath a curtain (why?!) and promptly knocked it off this morning when I
opened the curtain! D'oh! I'm fed up with my references now, and the unhelpful
guidelines so I'm going to email someone at uni and then spend today looking at
my introduction and context chapters again! Just out of curiosity, and I'm sure
we've talked about this before but I can't remember, whereabouts are you in your
programme? I'm in my third year (how did that happen?!) aiming to submit in
December.
I'm only in my second year, my funding runs out Sept 2013. So I'm doing well to be working on findings chapters, but it's largely because I started data collection in my first year (due to participants being available at the time), so things have sort of speeded up for me!
I still haven't actually started doing anything yet, but I will now!
hehe don't worry, I'm struggling this morning because I hate doing referencing so much! You're doing really well, I wanted to get my data collection done asap but due to various reasons I ended up doing it smack bang in the middle! I'm doing ok in terms of timetable, my funding runs out in January 2013 but I want to get a job before I submit, anything really, so I don't have a countdown at the end, it'll drive me nuts!
I think I might have cracked the referencing situation now thankfully! I'm going to have some lunch then head over to the library this afternoon, so have a good afternoon (up)
Sounds good Linda!
I've done goal 1 but realised that what I wrote yesterday needed A LOT of work, so I've been tackling that. I THINK I've got it sorted now, but going to have lunch and then read it again. I might move on to start editing the next section, or I might call it a day and go to the gym, hopefully ready for a better day tomorrow!
Wow, Linda, it sounds like you're really well ahead of the game if you're not planning to submit til December! From what you say on here you sound way ahead of me, and my funding runs out in October.
My original plan was to submit this summer (August-ish) but I really can't see that happening (and I'm starting to think it might be a good idea to delay my viva by a couple of months anyway and spend the extra time writing journal articles). That's partly why I'm moving in with MrBatfink - so when my funding runs out I'm not homeless!
And I too have a bit of a sore head. I went out last night to see my best mate who I haven't seen for a month, so it was a nice night. And then I had a long lie in this morning, reading a novel that I really don't have time to read. But I don't care! There's really no point getting completely stressed out by all the work, it'll get done.
Oh well, I'd better get on with some work. The plan for today is to go over a journal article that's already been revised by my two co-authors to go through bits they've left for me to work on (thanks, guys!) and to look for other improvements.
Morning!
Sounds like a plan Button! I love having days where I have nothing else booked except getting on with my work, haven't had one for a while now!
And yes it does seem like I'm ahead of the game Batfink, but my sups worry a lot about my writing, so I'm pushing to get a full draft ready before summer to allow plenty of time for the inevitable corrections that I will need to make :-( I really can't afford to go beyond the three years so it's critical that I get it done. I would love to submit early if possible but somehow, based on the amount of corrections I am ususally expected to do, I don't see that happening...! Having said that, if we can get it somewhere near correction free before submission then hopefully it'll save any extra work afterwards! I'd rather that I guess then end up with R&R which I have to say is my personal nightmare (especially after reading the posts of some of the R&R students here, I do feel for them).
Anyway, goals for today are:
Goal 1: Work on introduction chapter
Goal 2: Work on context chapter
That's about it for today, that will keep me busy!
