The One Goal Thread

Avatar for Batfink27

Morning again!

Today is going to be a fairly bitty day. I have a supervision meeting this afternoon and want to discuss my timetable and the structure of my thesis, plus funding for two conferences I'm presenting at, so I need to have everything ready to discuss those properly. Plus there are other admin bits to do, so I might not have a chance to get back to analysing my interviews today. Oh well!

Good luck with your work (if anyone else is reading this thread at the moment....!)

Hi Batfink, I'm here!

I was teaching all day yesterday, but don't have a massive amount of work to do today which is good. Lots of little jobs really.

Goal 1- read journal article, then edit plan for next few weeks
Goal 2- update whole phd plan
Goal 3- email sup to update on my progress
Goal 4- write q's to ask sup for next sup meeting
Goal 5- print off conference presentation ready to start going through next week

That should keep me occupied for a while!

B

Woohoo, goals 1 to 5 done!

Now I'm going to have lunch and this afternoon goal 6 is to hunt for the final literature I need. Then I really need to go to the gym, eugh!

L

Morning all!

I'm back! I've had a lovely two weeks off but now it's back to the grindstone! It sounds like you've both been really busy and have made lots of progress in my absence. I'm starting to get that sicky feeling where I know I have loads to do and feel guilty about having been off work :-( but I had a truly wonderful time!

So it's an easing back in day today.

Goal 1: Catch up on the massive amount of email I have in my inbox
Goal 2: Re-read Chapter 7 and supervision notes
Goal 3: Read up on some background literature

Hope you all have a great day! (up)

B

Welcome back Linda! How does it feel to be a newlywed?!

I've had a nice weekend off but have loads to do eugh.

Goal 1- teaching prep
Goal 2- send email
Goal 3- start learning presentation
Goal 4- start adding in links to lit for findings chapter 1

L

Thanks Button, it feels lovely, it's going to take some time to make the name change official though! I love being a Mrs, it's great, although it's been a bit of a heavy bump back down to earth this morning! I've got so many emails to sift through! Hope the work goes well this morning!

B

I remember the heavy bump well! What I found best was to launch myself back into everything though (i.e PhD work and we also started looking for a house to move into) so my mind was kept occupied!

I've done goals 1 and 2, so I think up until lunchtime I'll do goal 3. I then need to sort doggy out, go and see a house (as we may be moving again!) and I think I might then nip into town to hopefully get an outfit for the conference I'm presenting at in a few weeks (eek!) Feeling a bit meh today so that sounds like a good plan, then tomorrow I can crack on with the presentation and my findings chapter.

Hope all is going well!

Morning both of you, and welcome back Linda! Glad you had such a good time - and hope you cope okay with the return to reality!

Moving house isn't that much fun really. I'm starting to box up my stuff ready to move and I can't believe how much there is to do. Of course, my supervisors chose now to suggest some heavy deadlines - I've agreed because I know they're needed, but blimmin'eck, I don't know when I'll get it all done!

Oh well. Tasks for today:
1.) Write up supervision meeting notes and send to supervisors (nearly done this now)
2.) Apply for two lots of funding for the two conferences I'm presenting at
3.) Look at what I need to prepare before starting on new lot of data analysis
4.) Get as prepared as I have time for!
I also have to take a load of books and clothes to the charity shop and go food shopping. Hmm, not much time then!

Hi Batfink!

I also REALLY hate moving. You don't realise how much stuff you have!

Anyway, I've done my goals for the day, so now it's lunch/walk doggy/house viewing/buy conference outfit. Then I'll just go through the first part of my conference presentation tonight, ready to do the next bit in the morning. So I will 'see' you all tomorrow!

L

"see" you tomorrow Button!

Oh I hate moving too Batfink, it is such a pain! I had to be upfront with my sups when I moved house last year as they wanted a few things doing and it totally wasn't doable, it takes ages to be properly unpacked and ready to go really. I needed about a week before I was ready to settle down and get going.

I've managed to catch myself back up today up to the re-reading parts, so that's what I'll be mostly doing this afternoon!

L

Good morning,

Hope you are all well today and had successful afternoons! I re-read my chapter yesterday and it's not as bad as I thought it would be, hurrah! I have to make amendments to this chapter for a meeting in two weeks, and I also have a new chapter to write this month, so with this in mind my goals are:

Goal 1: Have some breakfast!
Goal 2: Write a plan for the next 2 weeks

B

Morning Linda!

Well I didn't find a conference outfit yesterday afternoon grr. Think I'll leave it til the weekend though, and drag hubs with me.

Goal 1- go over presentation from yesterday
Goal 2- learn next bit of presentation
Goal 3- edit findings chapter 1

I may get interrupted in the middle of things today though, and have to go and meet hubby at work re the house we looked at yesterday. I don't like interruptions!

L

Morning!

House viewing eh? Are you looking to buy something? Or just moving? How exciting, anyway!

I went round the shops yesterday whilst I was waiting to pick my hubby (squee very exciting to call him that!) up from work yesterday, there's lots of pretty summery stuff in but nothing really conferency! I can see why you struggled yesterday! Is your hubby a good shopper? Mine is pretty good, but in some ways he's better than me, I just walk around the shop at random and wait for something to jump out at me!

I now have a plan - I think....!
Goal 1: this week is to get Chapter 7 amended and ready for supervision.

I will then have the rest of the month to work on Chapter 2, and plus I think it'll be easier to get back into work mode by working on something that already exists, rather than writing from scratch. But before I start, I'm going to amend my PhD timetable so I can show my sups that my plan is feasible and realistic! Hope the conference prep and chapter amending goes well!

B

Just moving, we def can't afford to buy!

My hubs isn't a great shopper but just thought I'd drag him along and help me find something!

Sounds like you're making great progress; I think it'll be much easier to get cracking if you've already got some writing to work with.

I've done goal 1, now onto goal 2. I hate presentations!

Sounds like you're both going to make some good progress today.

My first task of the day is to download some software - hopefully it'll be straightforward but all the security stuff installed on my university laptop can make this a long-drawn-out process!

I also need to:
2.) Look at and comment on friend's draft questionnaire
3.) Finish drafting funding applications for two conference funds
4.) Plan out what I need to do to get going on new statistical analysis (should have done this yesterday but didn't manage it!)
