Thanks Button :-) Here I go:
Goal 1: Email the previous chapters to secondary supervisor.
Goal 2. Email the IT person regarding my simulations.
Goal 3. Finish section 1 of chapter 2.
Goal 4. Import the calculations and check the results.
I have already done 1 and 2. Now off to the library to work on 3. Good luck everyone!

Hi Button, how is it going? I just read that you wrote 2466 words in just under 3 hours yesterday. OMG!!!! That's incredible!!!!!!!! I wish I could write like you ;-)
I managed to write 977 words until now. I am back after lunch which I had outside on the patch of grass next to our department. There is no sunshine today unfortunately but it is warm. Ok, now back to business - got to crack in as many words as I can in the next couple of hours before I can move on to the next goal. Meanwhile, I had got an email from the IT person because of which I might have to work on something today or tomorrow.
I have been working from the library since yesterday which is really nice. The change of place has helped me to focus as I tend to get too distracted if I work from my office or home. I am so weak :-(
Welcome espresso, hope you find posting on the thread useful!
Button, hope you're making as good progress today as yesterday!
I was on a training course this morning, then straight into a research seminar afterwards, so I'm only now sitting down at a desk to do some work on my thesis. The training course was all about planning and writing a thesis, so I think I might spend the afternoon using the tips from that course to flesh out my structure and writing plan - I'm best at data analysis if I start first thing in the morning so the next part of that can wait til tomorrow.
Hi Batfink!
Espresso- don't be alarmed by me writing so much so quickly; I do a lot of very detailed plans beforehand so writing is very easy because I've already done all the thinking!
Okay so I've done the 2nd section which I'm really made up about. That leaves one big section and one small section to write! I'd LOVE to get them both written by tomorrow evening (I'm away Friday) but I really need to get to the gym today, and tomorrow I'm a bit preoccupied too. BUT I love a challenge, so I'm going to get cracking anyway!
Goal 2- do planning for implications section 3
Hi all!
It's a very late start for me, as I just woke up.... I had a really late night yesterday (don't know why), so after work today I decided to take a nap and I ended up sleeping for 3 hours.....oupsss
So, for today:
1) Check chapter 2 for flow and references
2) Call a friend and arrange a meeting to pick up keys.
Good luck everybody!
Hi
Button - I like the way you plan your sections and thinking them through before writing. Keep going :-)
Batfink - Thanks! It looks like you have had your training course at the right time. I hope it helps in further streamlining writing plan. Good luck with that (up)
Emmaki - Perhaps you needed that 3 hours sleep and it is good that you rested well. I am really amazed by people like you who work and do a PhD!! All the best with your today's goals.
So, I have written 1636 words in total and I am really happy with what I have written until now. I have included all the references as well and the text may not need much editing after which is good. I am off to my office as they close the library in 20 min. I will see what I can do with goal 4 and then will have to catch a bus to go home, cook, eat and then will see if I can continue writing later in the evening. Have a nice evening everyone!
Hope everyone is doing well! Total word count today = 2759 woo! That also means that all the sections I wanted written by fri are done already yippee! I haven't read over any of the work that I wrote yesterday or today yet though, which could be interesting!
See you tomorrow all (up)
Morning!
Button - I am impressed!!!!!! Well done you (gift)
Cindrella - Thanks and good luck to you too :-)
I will be off to work in a bit. Today's goals are:
1. Finish second part of section 1.
2. I've already written section 2 so will have to start section 3.
After these two I've got one more section with which this chapter will be over :-) I can move on to the Introduction.
Have a nice day everyone!
Good morning all!
Ah it's nice to see the One Goal Thread being used by so many people! As I managed to get so much done earlier in the week I had an impromptu day away yesterday which was nice, looks like you were all very busy so well done!
Today's goals are:
Goal 1: Conduct a literature search
Goal 2: Work on section 3 of chapter
I think that will do for now!
Have a great day everyone!
Morning!
Wow, you're all working hard and doing great progress it seems, I'm impressed! (up)
I worked on my chapter yesterday from 7am to 7pm with more or less no breaks, and I've managed to put together the first part of it (7'500 words in total, 2'000 wrote yesterday) and read three more articles I need this morning. And I thought that was a very good day!!
Well, today goals are
- read 3 more articles on interjudge reliability
- write section 4
- plan section 5
It's great to read your comments and follow your progress, being far away from the uni I practically don't have contacts with other phds. Where I work there are no phds either (a centre Europe issue with universities of applied sciences) and I'm simply treated as one of the researchers. But I feel the phd signs indeed a peculiar stage of life, and it's easy to feel alone - especially if you have no contact with other in similar situations. So: thanks for all your contributions to this forum!
:-)
Have a productive day!
