Morning all! Great to see so many people here, and it seems like everyone's making good progress too.
I started working fairly early this morning and am making good progress on my data analysis. I have one section of analysis to run on all three of my samples - it'll be a long day to get the whole lot done today, but I've started well so hopefully I'll manage it.
Afternoon,
Hope everyone's having a good day so far. I've managed goal 1 and dare I say it, I think I have done enough to leave my chapter for a few days and move on to something else..!
This afternoon I want to read a recently published report but first I'm having some lunch!
Hi Lindalou - Well done on finishing your first goal :-) and good luck with the rest!!!
How is it going for everyone else?
I got an email from the IT person this morning because of which I had to spend few hours sorting the new installation of the program which I run. But I didn't manage to get it running yet. I left it for later and started writing just before lunch, have written only 514 words until now :-( I am still working my way through to finish my first goal.
Don't worry Espresso, that's still a substantial amount of writing! It's better to write 500 meaningful words than thousands of words of waffle! and any words are still moving forwards to achieving your goal!
I've finished reading the report now so I'm going to do some admin, then sign off to do some exercise as I've been sat here for far too long now! See you all tomorrow(up)
Yes, 500 words is a good amount to do! I have times when I struggle to write 300, any progress is good.
I've just finished the analysis on 2 of my 3 samples. Time to have a break for some food and I should be able to complete the third sample this evening. A long day, but I'm on track and it feels good.

Morning all!!
Thanks Lindalou and Batfink! I do agree that 500 words is decent. I managed to finish goal 1 almost but still have some tweaking to do. I didn't get anywhere near goal 2. Its nice to hear that both of you did great yesterday (up)
Today's goals are:
1. Tweak section 1.
2. Work on section 3.
3. I've supervisory meeting this afternoon.
4. I might have to email the IT person back and forth to fix the issues.
Have a productive day everyone! :-)
Good morning everyone!
I'm aiming to proof read my chapter today and make any little tweaks and necessary amendments before leaving it and getting on with something else next week.
Hope you all have a great weekend, and those of you in the UK enjoy this extended bank holiday weekend!

Morning everyone!
Good luck with the work Espresso, sounds like you've made a good start to the day.
Yesterday I managed to finish the final section of this part of my data analysis - very very happy about that. It was a long day but worth it. I was at my desk again at 7 this morning, raring to go - which is lucky, as I have to write this chapter by Monday! Luckily it's mainly results so shouldn't be impossible (I hope!)
My first goal was to plan the overall structure of the chapter, which I've now done. The next goal is to go through each section and write a really detailed plan of exactly what I need to include in each section. I'm aiming to get that done by lunchtime so that this afternoon I can start adding in the content.
On edit - Lindalou (and everyone else in the UK!), hope you enjoy the bank hol, I'm going to be working through it :-( but I'm taking most of next week off to move house so it's not so bad really!
Good morning everyone.
I thought I would join you on the One Goal Thread because my deadlines are drawing closer and every day I am entering panic stage rather than making any real progress!
Today's goals:
Goal 1: Revisit chapter 4 of literature and make list of how it needs to be changed
Goal 2: Start making changes!
Goal 3: Update bibliography
Hope everyone has a good and productive day! :-)
Welcome Busybee! I am a new comer too :-) and I am already finding this thread useful and hope you will too.
Thanks Batfink. Well done on cracking it away! I am working over the long week end too, so you have company!!
Good luck with the proof reading Lindalou :-)
I spent couple of hours this morning trying to fix the issue with the code which I miserable failed at. I left it for the time being and have done goal 1 and moving on to goal 2 now. I have typed this section in word and will have to put it into latex later on.
Hi everyone, and welcome Busybee too! The more the merrier!
I've finished proof reading now, I'm not sure how happy I am about the work but we shall see...! Sometimes I get chapter blind and find it hard to be objective about my work when I've been heavily involved with it for a few weeks, so that's why I like to have a bit of a break away from it for a few days to work on something else!
But the fantastic news is, I only have one more chapter to write now before I have a complete draft, hurray! Granted, the chapters will need a few re-drafts before they are ready to go but I'm really pleased that I've got to this point, I certainly never thought I would!
Hope you're all having a good day!
Welcome Busybee!
And well done Lindalou, you must be really pleased with your progress!
And Espresso, I'm glad someone else will be here over the bank holiday, there's something very dispiriting about feeling like the only person who is working!
I've written my detailed chapter plan and am now starting to write. I'm feeling quite positive about it, though there's a lot of work to do. I want to get as much done as I can before 5pm, when I'm off to meet up with MrBatfink, who's been working away for two weeks - I've really missed him, so a nice evening with him will be just the break I need, before he goes off camping with friends for the weekend and I get back to work. (not jealous at all, oh no, not even slightly...)
Hope everyone had a productive day!
I had a bit of a frustrating day - I managed to complete goal 1 but in doing so, found that I need to redraft over half of the chapter (about 5000 words). It's annoying because I thought it was better than that (although I did write it over a year ago) but I seem to have left out bits I need and included a load of stuff that is now irrelevant! Oh well...
Am off for the long weekend so will report back on Wednesday...
Good luck to those working over the weekend.
:-)
Morning Batfink (and anyone else who is around)!
I feel the same way to work over the week end, it has been a while since I had a relaxed one. Oh well, it is all matter of months now :-)
That's wonderful, Lindalou. I am like you too, if I complete the one I am working on I would have only the introduction chapter to write. To be honest, mine is probably the worst first draft ever written!
Busybee, I'm sorry you have to redraft a chapter. I hope the week end away will help you come back to it with a big bang! (up)
So, yesterday I started working on section 2 after which I met my supervisor. He returned my conclusions chapter saying it looks like an extended summary and conclusions :-( and he felt it is too long. So, I got to restructure it and move some of the generic descriptions about the chapters to the introduction chapter. I am happy I got some comments back!
We spoke about the time line for submission and viva. The plan is to submit on the second week of Aug and tentative viva date is 9th of Nov (I am getting married in Oct). We have finalised the internal examiner (he has agreed) and the external examiner (still need to invite). I freaked out on the whole thing and couldn't think straight after that as I still have sooooooooooo much to do. I came back home and watched a movie to get everything out of my head!
Ok, I have decided to leave everything aside and think about one thing at a time. For now, I will be off to work in a bit and my goals for today are:
1. Work on section 3.
2. Start section 4 - plan a structure.
3. Troubleshoot the installation.
Have a nice day! :-)
