Eugh I'm bored! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything I need to do, but I envisage having more time over the next few weeks seeing as Euro 2012 starts today!
I really want to get goals 1 to 4 done before lunch, freeing up time this afternoon to tackle a journal article.
hehe Button! Take it your hubby is a football fan?!
It's really easy to get overwhelmed isn't it, but I think breaking it down into little goals helps. I never thought I'd actually get to where I am now but it's all been done by approaching it one step at a time. You're a star, you'll get there :-)
I've had lunch now but I'm struggling with what to do next... Also have that Friday feeling ;-)
Oh well, we are all suffering from Friday blues I guess! (do days of a week really make any difference for us PhD students?) And the gloomy weather doesn't really help at all :-(
It is indeed easy to feel overwhelmed, and I do feel so now and then but I try my best to shut down and look at one problem at a time. You have been doing great, Button! Perhaps you should treat yourself with something nice this week end :-)
That's great Lindalou - well done on completing the chapter! (gift)
Busybee - Good luck with the restructuring! I am sure it will look great at the end (up)
I have written 616 words until now, going on rather slow but making progress. I like what ever I have written up to now in the introduction chapter. So, I am happy :-) I am back after lunch (had the worst vegetable soup ever!) and got to kick start again. I am going to finish at 5 pm today so that I can be home early to skype my fiancé who lives 5000 miles away (it has been ages since the last time we skyped).
Mission accomplised! I have written 1048 words now, will chip in as many words as I can in the next couple of hours after a coffee break! Have a wonderful week end everyone!! 8-)
Well done all, sounds like we're doing great!
Well I managed my aim of doing goals 1 to 4 before lunch...except I have only just finished and haven't eaten, and it's 3pm argh! I'm starving so must go eat. Goals for the rest of today;
Goal 5- sort notes for journal article
Goal 6- read findings chapter
Goal 7- start planning for journal article
Goal 8- gym
Good luck all!
Well done everyone!
I managed to get my plan done this morning and have written 5 pages (not sure of word count and have shut my comp down now!) of the first section - it looks like the whole thing will be considerably longer than I thought, although at least if I get it all down I can then cut it as needed!
Have a good weekend all :-)

Well I'm still at my desk at 9.45pm on a Friday, what is going on! I've achieved all my goals though (except going to the gym, oops!) Going to crack on tomorrow though, I'm going on holiday soon so would love this article done before then!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi all (anyone around?), Its great to know that everyone had a productive week! I have been working over the week end - tweaked the introduction chapter, included references and figures and emailed it to my supervisors just now. I still have two more chapters to tweak out of which I will try to finish one by this evening and work on the other tomorrow. Hope everyone is having a good week end :-)
Morning all!
I'm here bright and early as I want to finish in time to watch England; I'm actually enjoying Euro 2012, I've got well into it with hubby! I had a lovely relaxing weekend but the pressure is on now to get a journal article written!
Goal 1- read findings chapter which article relates to
Goal 2- edit abstract
Goal 3- read other article for methodology
Goal 4- write!
Morning Button & everyone else,
I'm here too although not because I want to watch the football - I'm glad its on though as at least it keeps hubby busy while I work so I feel a lot less guilty for being sat at my desk in our spare room!
I have to go into uni this morning for a meeting at 10 so that will pretty much wipe out this morning, but this afternoon's goals are:
1. To start on the final section of chapter 3 (already have a rough plan for it)
2. If goal 1 gets done, start drafting out the introduction and summary sections of the chapter.
Hope you all have a productive day :-)
Morning everyone! Hope you're all well, and making good progress.
Well, I've moved house, and am now surrounded by boxes that need to be unpacked! But the office is set up so I can get work done and just finish the unpacking slowly - MrBatfink isn't coming home next weekend because we're going to a wedding, so I have some time before he's back and the place needs to be presentable!
I've got a busy time coming up. In two weeks time I go to a conference for a week. Before then, I have to write the presentation that I need to give at the conference (this may include quickly running more analysis), and also put together a full draft of what's been done on the whole thesis so far to send to my supervisors to look at while I'm away. Both of those thing are big bits of work.
Goals for today:
1.) Go food shopping - there's nothing at all in the fridge!
2.) Make a good plan of the conference presentation
3.) Work out where I stand on each section of the thesis
4.) Plan how I'll get the work done over the next two weeks
5.) Do some sorting out in the flat.
That should keep me busy, and ease me back into PhD mode after a few days off!
Morning all!
Good to know that all are doing well! I have to tweak two chapters today (one is half done) and send them off to my supervisors.
Have a wonderful and productive week everyone! (up)
Hi everyone,
Sounds like you're all busy and getting on well with your work so well done! And hope the move went well Batfink, I hate packing and then unpacking with a passion! Hope it goes ok!
I'm working on a diagram/graphical representation of my findings today which I thought about over the weekend but so far it's not going very well - I can't draw to save my life either which doesn't help! I might have to enlist the help of an arty friend if the diagram makes it into the thesis! Hurray for talented friends!
Thanks Lindalou, yes the move did go well, but I ache all over now from rushed packing and unpacking - so relieved we paid people to do the actual moving for us, I think that would have wiped me out!
The diagram of findings sounds very exciting! Hope you can find a way to translate what you picture!
I've not got very far with my goals yet today, but I've been following up on emails and stuff and it's all been important and useful, so it's all good. Next task is to dig out the abstract that was accepted for the conference all those months ago and see what I promised to talk about!
Good luck everyone.
I have had the most frustrating day and am only now sitting at my desk to even look at my PhD work - although my original uni meeting was only meant to be a couple of hours, I ended up stuck there until gone 3pm and then bumped into some other PhD friends I hadn't seen for a while so we all had a bit of a whinge and moan about how stressed we all were! It was quite nice really - and reassuring to know they are stuck in write up hell too!!! :-)
Anyway, my goal for tonight is to write a clear plan for tomorrow's work so I can crack on first thing and catch up on the work I missed today - I desperately need to get this chapter finished by Weds at the latest.
