Oh well done Button on reaching your goals. And the internet thing sounds horrendous - these companies really do just cause so much unnecesary stress!
Good luck everyone else with your goals!
I had a meeting with my supervisors this morning where they gave me lots of really useful feedback on the chapter I sent them last week. They really are good. Now I've got a clearer idea what I need to do with my other chapters too. And they gave me some good hints about my conference presentation, so all in all, it was a very useful meeting.
Goals for this afternoon:
1.) Write up notes from this morning's meeting
2.) Look again at content of presentation following our discussion
3.) Plan out what I need to do on chapter rewrite
4.) Print lots of documents to enable me to work from home!
Hello everyone!
I can see that a lot is happening around here! It is good to know that all are doing great.
Batfink - How is the unpacking going on? How are you finding it to work at the new place? And thank you very much for the wonderful tips on writing journal articles. That's very useful.
Emmaki - Welcome to the UK. You must be missing the sunshine :-) I hope the meeting with your supervisors went ok. Good luck!
Lindalou - Well done on sketching out the diagram and wish you luck to get it into electronic format (up)
Button - Fantastico! You have managed to put together your first draft in such a short time. Keep it up! And I hope you got the issue with the internet sorted out.
BusyBee - I agree that it is nice to have a chat with fellow PhDers now and then and to know that most of us feel the same way when it comes to writing! How is your present chapter coming up?
So, I have emailed Chapters 1 and 2 to my supervisors already and have some basic issues to fix like including references, check the grammar and so on in the final chapter. I am hoping to finish and email it by today. I went to observe some measurements this morning to refresh what I will be doing when I find a job after PhD (I have totally forgotten everything as I have lost touch for the last 3.5 years) which is nice. I had a short meeting with my supervisor, didn't have much to discuss as he hasn't gone through my chapters yet.
Good luck everyone! (up)
Sounds like you're making good progress, Espresso!
The unpacking is nowhere near done, but not too bad, thanks! I blitzed through the unpacking on a load of easy things (like books) just to get stuff on shelves and get rid of boxes. And his (sorry, my) office is fabulous - he's a computer programmer so had all the desks etc set up perfectly for computer work, so all I had to do was plug in my laptop and stick my folders on a shelf! It's a good place to work, but it is taking some getting used to!
By the way, I'm really glad people found the journal article stuff useful - I really do think it's a good method.
Anyway, I've printed out a load of stuff and written up notes from my meeting, and I've got a good idea of what I need to work on tomorrow. I also booked my flights and accommodation to attend a conference, good to have that all sorted. So I think it's time to catch my train home!
Good morning everyone,
Up bright and early - literally! Yay for sunshine :-) I didn't really have a very productive day yesterday in terms of writing, but I did a lot of thinking so I'm going to be cracking on with my chapter today.
Goal 1: To get final analysis chapter re-structured into new sections
As it's quite a mess at the moment, I envisage this goal taking me quite a long time today!
Hope everyone has a good and productive day (up)
Morning! And it is a beautifully sunny one too.
Today I want to sort out the content for my presentation. It probably will involve running little bits of analysis just so my presentation bears a passing resemblence to the abstract in the conference programme. So that's my goal for the day - work through my plan and pull it all together. We'll see how far I get.
Hi all!
Today's goal is to get my journal article sorted so that I can officially say I'm happy with it as the first draft, before it goes off to sup. I think the discussion/conclusion need a bit of work, but I'm fairly happy with the rest of it. I then need to move straight onto working on chapter 8, my final discussion chapter. If I could get that done before I move house next week, I could do all the unpacking without having to worry about work, and then we go on holiday so it would be great if I could go away thinking I've got first drafts of all my main chapters! It will be pushing it though because I haven't packed or anything yet, eek, so best get cracking with the work!
Goal 1- read through journal article and make necesssary changes
Goal 2- do reference list
Goal 3- read through everything written for chapter 8 so far
Good luck today everyone!
Hi all,
Lindalou - Yes, indeed! What a beautiful bright morning! I can really feel the difference in my mood when it is sunny like today :-) I am all cheered up!! (robin) Don't worry about yesterday Linda. You will do great today!!
Batfink - Wow, how wonderful!! It is good to know that you are settling in. Good luck (up)
I didn't manage to send the final chapter yet, I am desperately wanting to send it today. That will be my one and only goal for now!
Have a fabulous day all!
This is a good idea. Giving yourself a goal on a public platform makes you want to achieve it. Well my goal for this week is to complete my work on time and spend more hours on it. This way i will be more organised and at ease at the end of the day. Let me see how much do i follow this.
Hi Jenstallon,
Yes it works quite well - I've found it really useful to have set myself goals publicly, I feel awful if I don't achieve them! But I'm not doing very well today :-( I've had a bit of bad news this morning which has upset me a bit, but I need to put it to one side for now and deal with it later! I must get my goal achieved!!!
Oh dear Lindalou! I hope you are ok. Hugs!!!
Welcome Jenstallon, it definitely is very useful. I hope you find it the same way. Good luck with your goals (up)
