Hi Morning all!
Hope everyone had a nice week end. I worked a bit on Saturday and had a "No PhD day" yesterday ;-) which was nice. I got to get going this week starting with goals for today:
1. Troubleshoot simulation issue.
2. Check results one by one.
I have done goal 1, finally managed to fix the issue - it was to do with some thing silly again! Arrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhh...(stupid code). I am going to carry on with 2 now.
Have a productive day and week everyone! (up)
Hi everyone,
Hope you had a good day yesterday Espresso, and the packing went well Button! I'm just carrying on today like yesterday!
Have a good day everyone :-)
Hi Lindalou (and others who are around today)
Morning! Yet another bright day :-) I totally understand what you mean by 'time is flashing past', some times I keep on wondering about it and at other times I just think it is better not to think about it at all! It makes butterflies flutter in my tummy when I think about the time left to submission and mound of work to do :-( How is it going on with the amendments?
I kind of had an ok day yesterday, have made a list of things to do in the next couple of weeks, when I am waiting for my supervisors comments on the chapters. I am going to crack one goal at a time instead of freaking out.
Goal 1 - Do plan calculations.
Have a good day all! (robin)
Morning everyone!
I know what you all mean about time flashing by, it is very very frightening. I feel like I lurch from one deadline to the next and enever have time to pause or think about any of it, and every time I lift my head another month has passed. Scary stuff.
I was working in a cafe yesterday because I had to hang around between finishing cleaning my old flat, having the final inspection with the letting agents, and then going to an evening meeting of the voluntary group I chair, and there wasn't time to come home between each thing. So, I got some work done but it was quite bitty, and I was fairly frustrated with it all.
I have to send a draft of my thesis so far to my supervisors on Friday, and also get my presentation done for next week's conference (and my supervisors want a couple of days to comment on that too, so I really need to send it to them today). Way too much work to be humanly possible, but I'll just have to do what I can. Only one goal for today: get the powerpoint for my presentation done and send it to my supervisors.
Ooh Batfink, that does sound busy - good luck, one thing at a time! You'll get there!
The amendments are going ok thanks Espresso, I'm rather like Batfink in that I am preparing my chapters to send a "thesis so far" to my supervisors at the end of the month. Very very scary! Like you, I try not to think about what comes next as I get really nervous and worried about it - I'm going to be a mess when it comes to viva! If I ever get there! Positive thinking!
Hurray, that's one more chapter amended, thank goodness! I shall be putting that to one side now for a few days, although I now have the choice of two chapters, both of which I know aren't very good to work on, eek!
Hope you're all having a good and productive day (up)
Oh dear Batfink, you do have quite a lot on your plate. Don't be too hard on yourself and tackle one thing at a time and you will get there.
Lindalou - Well done on finishing the amendments. A big pat on your back!
I seem to get nowhere with my simulations. I have few problems lined up as soon as I fix one and this is so frustrating! I have no idea what I am going to do with them :-( I had submitted the first draft of all my chapters on Friday last week which is a relief but I am waiting for my comments and don't have how much more editing I have got to do. It doesn't seem like it is going to ever end!
It is endless. I'm really struggling at the moment. I didn't get my presentation finished yesterday, but I'm hoping I'll manage to blitz it this morning. If I don't I'll really be in trouble, I just don't have time to do everything by Friday. Oh well, small steps, break it down, keep going. And I'm determined to get out of the flat and go for a walk at some point today as well!
Hope everyone else's work is going better than mine!
Morning all,
Well you've started bright and early Batfink so that's a good sign! Hope your work goes ok today and you do manage to get outside for a bit. I think it's just as important to get out and have a break away from the desk, so don't sit there all day or you'll go barmy!
I'm still umming and aahing about which chapter to get started on now, I think it's probably best to start with the worst one! But the problem I have there is that I have no clue where to start with it! So this morning is going to be mainly reading, cutting and pasting into a new format! Wish me luck :$
Have a good day everyone!

Hi everyone!
Batfink - I am sorry you are struggling, perhaps it is better to focus on the presentation (as you have the conference in a week) and request your supervisors for more time to submit your draft. I am sure they will understand. Good luck (up)
I checked my calculations yesterday and was troubleshooting most of the day, didn't get a lot of useful work done though. I have got comments back from my primary supervisor on the Introduction and Conclusions chapters and I need to do a lot of editing. He said not to worry as I have enough time until submission but I don't really know how this is all going to end. Today's goals:
1. Make a list of every day goals until the end of this month.
2. Work on calculations.
3. Troubleshoot simulations.
Have a nice day everyone!
Hope you're all having a good day, I've had a reasonable day so far so it's looking good. I should get this chapter finished by the end of the week then I'll have next week to make minor amendments to the next one before sending the thing away. I'm not looking forward to putting it all in one document though, eek!
I'm having a terrible day, my presentation is taking me all day and I desperately needed to have finished it yesterday. Ho hum. Not much I can do apart from keep on keeping on. But I do have some good observations to report in the presentation, so at least it should be okay at the conference! Will just have to tell supervisors I'm behind schedule on the thesis draft. Oh well!
Still working. Boo hoo hoo. Hope to finish presentation in next hour or so. And then I can watch TV or something else equally satisfying!
Hi folks,
Lindalou - That's great! You seem to be in the swing and keep it up :-)
Batfink - How is the presentation shaping up? It is nice you can get it done in an hour and relax. Well done!
I am still at work, have managed to finish my goals except 3 but did three other things which I didn't list this morning. I was panicking since morning but I seem to have cooled down now. I have to catch a bus in an hour, luckily I have cooked food for the next couple of days already ;-) I can go home, eat and hit the bed straight away so that I can have an early start and late finish tomorrow too. Life is so much fun! :-D

Espresso - hope you're managing the early start today! And no more panicking, none of us need that!
Didn't get the presentation finished last night - I probably could have done, but I was very tired and the bits I had left were the conclusions/next steps, and I thought I'd do those better if I looked at them freshly this morning. Hopefully won't take too long though, and then I can get on with the thesis draft.
Good luck today everyone!
