Morning all,
I know the feeling Espresso - sometimes all I feel like I do is sleep, eat and write my thesis! But it will be worth it in the end (hopefully!)
And don't worry Batfink, I think you've made the right decision, sometimes when I've been working on something for ages it stops making sense to me so it's better to take a break and come back to it fresh in the morning!
Well this morning I'm going to be cracking on with Chapter 1, then I've got a meeting with the supervisors. I really would like to get Chapter 1 wrapped up today so I can make a start on Chapter 2 tomorrow (which needs less work) then I'll have the majority of next week to go through the whole thing and make sure it all ties together! I still can't quite believe I have a massive chunk of writing under my belt! I never thought I'd get here in a million years!
Have a good day everyone (up)
Microsoft word is making me laugh out loud this morning with its suggestions about my grammar! It doesn't seem to have grasped the fact that "Staff" is correct for describing more than one person! And the suggestions it makes for some of my sentences... Seriously, if I allowed it to, it would correct my thesis into something written by Yoda! I admit, as a Star Wars fan I am almost tempted...!

Hi everyone!
Batfink - I started at 9 am, which is early for me considering the fact that I used to start around 11 ish few months before :-) I agree, no panicking any more. Let us fight! Don't worry about not finishing the presentation yesterday, you have been working hard consistently for such a long time - you are only human, so don't be too hard on yourself. There are only 24 hours in a day and we can work only so many hours :-) Keep going, you will get a wonderful piece of presentation at the end when you are done!
Lindalou - Oh dear! I exactly know what you mean :-) We will get there eventually and hopefully can have a life thereafter! It is only matter of months now :-) Good luck with your amendments and supervisory meeting!
So, finally one set of my simulations are working, I have got other sets of simulations to test - have got quite a few to run. Oh well! I will keep going. So, for today:
1. Combine the results of yesterday's simulation.
2. Edit introduction chapter.
3. Edit conclusions chapter.
4. Email supervisors about one of the findings which needs clarification.
5. Launch simulations later in the evening.
This might take the whole day (it is going to be a long one again...sigh!!!!) Have a wonderful day everyone! Gosh...it is supposed to be summer. Where is the SUN???? :-s
Phew, presentation finally done and sent to supervisors for comments! So glad to have that done. It still needs rehearsing and so on, but there's time for that.
Linda, I'm so envious of your huge chunk of written work! But you've worked hard on it, so well done. Hopefully I'll be at that point fairly soon!
Espresso, I used to start work later too, I think that's a thing of the past now until this thesis is done and submitted! But I find I get loads done really early in the morning - and there's something very satisfying about looking at the cloeck at 9 am and realising I've already done two good hours of work!
Right, time to have a shower and get dressed, and then I'll crack on with the work on the thesis.
Well done Batfink, that's brilliant! I agree with you about time - I love that feeling too where you look at the clock and realise it's only 10am or whatever, it's the best feeling ever! I only have buckets of time to write though because I have many, many amendments to make before I submit!
Hope you're having a good day so far Espresso - remember there is only so much you can do in one day - it does sound like you've got a lot to do today! I agree though - WHERE is the sun?!
I've had supervision so now I'm going to crack on with my amendments of Chapter 1 - I'm at the worst section of the chapter so this is going to take me some time... I seriously don't know where to start with it tbh but I suppose I just need to dive in there and get on with it!
Batfink - Bravo! You must be relieved and good luck with your rehearsal! Do you do it front of a mirror? ;-)
Lindalou - It is going on good so far, thanks for asking! I hope your meeting was good. How long do you have until submission if I may ask? Have you decided on a date? Perhaps it is better to start with easy ones :-)
I am liking it to be an early bird too (I have been a nocturnal for ages - almost 6 years) ;-) I have done 1 and started 2 just now. I don't know where to start like you Lindalou, so I am going to start with the straight forward corrections and work it up from there. There is a lunch time lecture for an hour in between, so will see how much I can get done today.
I have funding until the end of the year so I don't have a submission date yet, I would like to submit before Christmas though if possibe. I hate leaving things until the last minute hence why I have worked so hard to get a thesis together this early in the year. I think I will have lots of corrections and amendments to make which will keep me busy for most of the year.
I've just kind of dived in to the chapter and started making changes, but I'm really not very happy with this chapter at all! Part of me wants to scrap and write another one but I don't have time to do that! Eek!
Lindalou - That's wonderful! You still have plenty of time to fine tune your thesis which is great (up) I wish I was as organised and systematic as you are :-(
I have been at work for more than 12 hours now and have completed all my goals except 3 (silly me, later in the day I realised that I had left the print outs with my supervisors comments on them at home) and half of 2 (did all the easy corrections and fine tuning). I have half an hour to catch my bus and an hour long travel in the bus to go home, eat, watch something on my laptop while eating and to hit my bed! Yet another productive day which I am happy about :-)
Good night and sleep tight everyone! :-x
My goals for tomorrow are:
Incorporate some theory into one of my categories in my qual chapter
Write summaries for three of my subcategories
Make a start on tidying up my qualitative discussion chapter
I've got a hand-in date, it's 24th Sept, so I need to get cracking....eeeek
Good morning everyone!
I managed to have an early start today, have quite a few goals for today:
1. Combine simulation 2.
2. Edit the rest of the introduction chapter.
3. Edit the conclusions chapter.
4. Launch simulation 3 later in the evening.
If I complete all these 4 then I will see if I can work on couple of other things. Have a wonderful day!
Morning Espresso, hope you have a good and successful day today. And hope you are getting on well too Clementine if you're around today. I'm going to be working on a different chapter today which has already been commented on, which makes amending slightly easier! Good luck today everyone!
Morning Lindalou, and Espresso, and Clementine and whoever else is around today!
Today is a dark wet day, but somehow I'm feeling very chipper and energetic, no idea why! Maybe it's the feeling that the work I have to do isn't as impossible as I thought - my supervisors have both commented that my presentation looks great as it is, and yesterday I planned out the work I need to do to get my thesis draft ready to send to my supervisors today and it's not as much work as I thought it would be. (Might still take me until tomorrow morning, but that's close enough to the deadline to make me happy...)
My goals for today:
1.) Make changes to chapter 5 as planned out yesterday
2.) Create small research summary and contact sheet and print out to take to conference
3.) Print accommodation details, maps, etc for conference
4.) Type up and print out notes for presentation
5.) Pull together all the chapters I have so far and send complete (hah) thesis to supervisors (this will probably happen tomorrow)
Hope you all have successful days and achieve as much as I'm hoping I do!
Good luck Batfink, that sounds great! I love it when there's less to do than you think there is! Well done on completing a perfect presentation - that is no mean feat! (up) Ah your positivity has buoyed me up! We will get through this work today peeps! :-)
Ooh good, positivity is a great thing to share! Let's bounce our way through today...
I have done goals 2, 3 and 4, which were the easy jobs. But still, it's good to tick them off. Now for the chapter rewriting!
