Heh, I'm not criticising anyone who has got married, of course :-) I can see the appeal when you're with someone you really want to be with.
Anyway - still plugging away, mostly finished my introduction/background section now, so I'll probably look through and make some easy changes to other sections in the paper and then call it a day.
Skig - being careful not to burn out is a good idea. I think one reason I'm struggling for motivation at the moment is that I put in a lot of long hours over the last few weeks. I think a gentle balance of hours would be much more effective overall!
Well belated congratulations Batfink! And I also know what you mean about avoiding this thread when you haven't been getting along as well as you'd hope; I've done it many a time!
I'm still working on this dreaded lit review and it's so slow. It needs an awful amount of work and I can't see how I'll ever get through it!
Hehe yes I'd like to own up to the "avoiding the One Goal Thread when you've not been as productive as you'd like" club!
Hope everyone is doing ok this morning, I'm feeling a bit light headed and woozy this morning which is not ideal when I have to travel later to get to supervision.... hopefully I'll feel a bit better later as I really don't want to miss this one today :-( anyone got any tips for feeling a bit faint? I've had a breakfast cereal fortified with iron!
This morning I'm still reading through my draft... I will get there!
A fine excuse for eating chocolate if ever I heard one :-) I might have to give it a trial, purely in the name of scientific research you understand, after all, that is our job ;-)
Heh, yes, medicinal chocolate is the best kind!
Back for another battle with low motivation. I'm going to try to finish the intro/background section of my journal article and then stop for breakfast - that should motivate me!
Good luck everyone!
Heh, yes, not sure it's a good system really, bad for the waistline!
Intro/background section finished so now I'm eating a bagel with cream cheese :-) Next step, rewriting the Methods section.
Aah you two, you make me feel so much better! I am exactly the same, hehe! I'm feeling much better now thankfully, the medicinal chocolate must have worked its magic! I am now counting down the time until I can eat lunch!
Good work Button! I've had lunch now so I'm off to supervision, won't get back til silly o clock so see you tomorrow. Have a great afternoon both (up)
Maybe avoiding the thread and using food, especially chocolate, are just part of the phd journey as I do it too! Although I'm having a a toffee muffin with my hot chocolate now yum.
Been food shopping and doing some bits around the house this morning. Only just sat down to do some work. It'll be a weird day for me as I have to go doctors later on and I work better when there are no distractions/interruptions.
Goals for today:
1) Admin
2) Reading at least a couple of papers - I just need to start somewhere!
3) Finish my intro for paper
4) Amend methods for the paper
Oh, it's so heartening to feel that this is all perfectly normal and how everyone else deals with it!
Seems like we're all powering through (fuelled by yumminess) so that's great to see. Hope you can get stuck in too Skig (to the chocolate? the work? whichever!)
I just finished my Methods section. Now into the tricky bit, the results, where I need to write a new section with some new data. This may take a while. But I've set myself the goal of finishing the paper by the end of tomorrow, and that's feeling manageable now.
Morning!
I didn't get much done yesterday after all but need to make up for it today as I need to email sups with some thoughts around revisions required so I'll just concentrate on this. I'm hoping it'll only take 2/3 hours but we'll see. I'm not very good at estimating how long things take. I'll come back later.
Hope you all have a productive day!
