Hello all!
I was hoping to get my journal article finished today, but I underestimated how much time my new section with new data would take to add in (I always forget how long tables etc take to do!). So the revised plan for today is to finish the new section and tie it into the surrounding sections. That should mean I can finish the whole thing on Monday, if I don't have time over the weekend.
Hope you all have productive days!
Hope you're both awake! Have to admit I'm feeling all droopy eyed now!
I just finished the new data section of my paper, and my eyes feel very tired, so I'm going to call it a day now. I need to do some cleaning and tidying of the flat before MrBatfink comes home for the weekend!
hope you all have a good weekend.
Hi guys,
Would it be possible for me to join you? You all sound so organised and motivated by each other!
What's the general gist? Post goals then post if you met them or not later on?
8-)
Morning all and welcome Noctu!
I achieved very little of Friday, so thought I would work Sunday to make up for it, except I got stuck into the Olympics and couldn't drag myself away! So now I have an awful lot of work to do and I don't really fancy doing it! I also have a completely disjointed week meaning a lot of this week will be non-PhD word, so that adds more pressure!
Goal 1- section 1 of LR
Hello!
Welcome Noctu! Yes, I think the original idea was to post A goal for the day and come back later on with an update. But these days, I think people just post whatever they have planned for that day rather than sticking to just one thing...
Friday was not the most productive day ever here either. I managed to get a few things done though so the day wasn't a completely waste of time. Hubby is away this week so I'm going to pull a few long days if I can, it's been too long since I've done this full-time lol
I have a few bits of admin to sort out (I'm off to do them now) and some reading as well. Also need to finish the intro for my paper which I haven't done yet but this will be in the afternoon.
Have a good day!
I'm ok, thanks Button. Don't beat yourself up! Sometimes we need to do the easier bits first, it gives our brain a break whilst still working on the thesis.
Not the most productive day for me again but I've managed to do start doing some reading I've been avoiding so I'm chuffed about that.
Admin has been done, reading in progress. I've decided to leave the intro for tomorrow as doing quite well with the reading even though I was so tired in the afternoon I had to take a long nap:$ the joys of pregnancy! I'm going to tackle another couple of bits now and then call it a day.
See you all tomorrow!
Hello.
Hope you're all having lovely, useful days. I'm in the lab again today, so not planning on doing much more than making sure my experiments go ok and reading a couple of papers. I'm feeling fairly relaxed and not worrying about anything today so I'm happy. Has anyone else had those days where you get so stressed about how much work there is that you hardly get any of it done?

Hello everyone!
Feeling a bit guilty because I haven't done any work since Friday - I took the weekend off, and never got started on Monday (ended up watching the Olympics) and my parents came to visit for the day yesterday. So I need to get a good day's work done today. It's not the end of the world, I'm intending to work through this weekend anyway.
Labpixie, I know exactly what you mean about being crippled by having too much to do. I wish I knew a solution to that! The only thing I can do to get around it is to break the tasks down into easy steps and focus on each step instead of the huge enormous impossibility of the whole task!
Today, I want to get a serious amount donw on my journal article. It'd be great to finish it (I need to get back to the thesis) but that might not quite be realistic. If I can finish it tomorrow that would be good enough.
I think the secret with having too much is just to plug away. Crossing things off lists is so therapeutic for me :-)
I promised I would get a publication draft written by August. GULP. So its August now and I need to re-work the discussion today so I can get it off to my supervisor - who I really should now call my colleague or co-author, but she still rips my work apart like my supervisor so I guess the name has stuck
Hi Labpixie, I've had lots of these (and still do!) but find that breaking down tasks as Batfink suggested really helps so that even though I'm not doing as much as I'd like, at least work is still moving forward.
Batfink, try not to feel guilty, we all have times like that;-)
Hi Sneaks, nice to 'see you'. Hope all is well your end!
I'm still plodding along with my reading, it's moving forward though so that's good news but I haven't touched my paper and I really need to so I'm going to be quite strict with myself and allocate 4 tomatoes for reading, 2 for looking into my lit review and any others to look at my paper.
Hope you all have a productive day8-)
Hi everyone, and good to see you around Sneaks!
I've been busy today and yesterday with non-related PhD work. I'm also busy most of tomorrow, but would love to get my lit review edited by the end of Friday! Goal for this afternoon is to get section 1 (nasty section) and section 5 (easy section) of my lit review sorted, which will then mean than 4 out of 5 sections are done. Then I can tackle the final nasty section tomorrow afternoon and Friday.
Only problem is I REALLY want to watch the men's gymnastics at 4.30pm today, which only leaves me 2 hours to tackle sections 1 and 5, eek!
