Marking finally done. There were a few more reports which I had to go through because I wasn't happy with the original marks. But the real reason it took so long was because my other half came home and started talking about holiday arrangements, and I got distracted looking at hotels online :$
Now I need to sort out a couple of things before a meeting with the research group tomorrow and then that's me for the day.
Hope you sorted the problem, Sneaks. (Can you use non-parametric tests, or does that just show how little I really know about stats?)
Got a quarter of the way through the book I've been reading, so only half my target. But I think I can skip some of the later chapters. And it's been useful. But my head hurts now, so I think it's time to call it a day.
ah ha! I've downloaded a trial of spss 18 (its amaaaazing oooooh) so I have 21 days to do all my stats! (before downloading the trial on another computer - hopefully that will work!
yep I'm off too, well done for the word reduction Moonblue!
Hubby's getting to the station at 6.40, so will try and find something for dinner in the meantime and start stats properly tomorrow, now I know what I'm doing! And my book should be here tomorrow which will help.
I want to work through the weekend, but going to the playoff final at wembley on saturday, so that's going to be that day gone, so really need to surge ahead tomorrow!
Hi all,
Am a little late logging on today...have been at work all day (I have a 9-5 admin job on a Thurs & Fri) and now I'm home, I need to crack on with my literature...
My writing is a hard slog at the moment and generally ends up with me writing and then re-writing the same paragraph for an hour at a time! Grrr!! Oh well, if at first you don't succeed....
Have got other things to do for my transfer report so if i feel like i'm not making progress, i'll shift to one of them for half an hour or so...
My goal for tonight and tomorrow is to try and get the section I'm writing finished!
xxx
I'm working towards my transfer report too, Sarah - suddenly there doesn't seem to be much time left!
My first goal for today: second section of chapter 1. I need to combine two separate sections for this, and lose about 1000 words... I'm trying to get one tomato in before getting the kids ready for school and, as both kids are at school until after 3pm today, I should have plenty of time to work on this today!
Is tranfer = upgrade?
I haven't upgraded and I'm in my 3rd year - with 6 months left. I'm sure I would upgrade, but the uni doesn't seem to push it - I found some guidelines a few years ago about it, but there doesn't seem to be a complete formal process and no one in authority/admin has mentioned it to me. And I've spoken to others who started at the same time and they haven't upgraded either. I guess I'll have to upgrade and pass at the viva!
Today...
Stats stats stats
Morning! I died yesterday, so didn't get anything done.
Today, I'm going to take a break from my coding (which is driving me up the wall) and work on my thesis. I have two notebooks of notes to put in there, so that should keep me busy for a looooooong while!
Isn't it so hard when there's sun outside?
I have to submit an upgrade report in month ten in order to upgrade within 12 months, so that's coming up frighteningly soon! Once I've got my current deadline out of the way it'll be upgrade report writing time. Yikes! I don't feel like I've covered enough yet!
Today, I am going to keep reading the book I started yesterday. It woud be great to finish it, but that might be too ambitious. Getting through enough of it so I can finish reading it over the weekend while still having time to enjoy myself and relax would be enough, I think!
Change of plan - have to update writing after sup has just emailed it to me. Its STILL 8500 words, and no journal will accept over 6k, I keep saying it, but there's no change.
Hmm anyway.
Goal 1: make all changes
Goal 2: write up stats.
I don't actually think anyone read through my transfer document properly... I spent ages and ages getting it *just so* but the people that were suppose to read it properly (sup, the ref, etc) basically just read the headings that said it was fine!!!!
I wouldn't say "so don't worry too much about your transfer doc" because I am aware that what happened to mine was not the standard thing to be done. However, I think if you already have a strong project proposal (I assume you do, as you were accepted with the said proposal), and done some good written work, most of your transfer doc will be a case of copying and pasting from the two!
My main problem with my upgrade report is that it needs to be about 10,000 words, but my draft Background, Lit Review and Methodology together come to closer to 30,000, and I'm writing another section at the moment that may be about 10,000, so I'll have a whole heap of cutting down to do! There are worse problems to have, though!
