urgh, having real trouble. My sup has told me to have hypothesis 2 related to a whole chunk of literature - but she's making up what that literature actually says i.e. I can't really justify my hypothesis based on that literature and how I've done my study.
:-(
Will try and push ahead with other bits and wait for her answer.
Had a major wibble when I realised that my presentation is 5 minutes longer than I thought it had to be. It's a 30 minute slot but the presentation should be 15 with 15 minutes for questions and discussion (15 minutes of questions and discussion?! Weep). So I have been cutting stuff out. Almost there. Why didn't I check this earlier? :-( I usually forget loads of stuff because I'm nervous anyway so should be OK but I don't need the stress.
One more run through and then I have to head out to register.
Managed to finish chapter 5 and chapter 7 today and I'm currently making my way through my content analysis/directory for my chapter 3.
Chapter 6 tomorrow!
My goal before lunch is to get this blimmin conference paper in in some form or other!
Then I need to take dog for a second walk because the 1st one was cut short by her rolling in fox poo - bleugh, she stank the whole town out, so it was straight back for a shower for her. And then I went and did the weekly shop and then put a load of washing on. So now I'm ready to start work - although not really wanting to!
alright I'm dragging today so I'm on with my goals: finish revisions for chapter 1 and 2, get started on chapter 6.
Chapter 1 is done, just needs proof reading before I send it. Chapter 2 needs a section rewritten which I'm doing now. The headache and nauseous-ness due to being so very tired isn't helping though. But I'm determined to get them off by this afternoon.
So goal 1 - finish 1st part of new section.
Goal 2 - finish 2nd part.
Goal 3 - finish 3rd part
Goal 4 - Proof read chapter 2
Goal 5 - proof read chapter 1.
Here goes!
Back from a lovely holiday and already I can feel the stress clenching my stomach! That's not good. I went swimming this morning to try to knock the stress out of me so now I'm aching and stressed. Ah well! I just need to learn to relax.
Today I will actually get some work done (unlike the last three days, when I've been trying to kid myself that I actually am still on holiday).
Goal 1 - print off draft first year report and check formatting, numbering of sections etc.
I've just realised I need to go back to the drawing board with my chapter 6 in light of a few reliability checks!! arrrghhhhhhhhhhh!! I feel like bursting into tears! :(
I need to apply my new coding frame to all of the transcripts in order to compare my responses with other researchers coding to check reliability!
So goal for today (and I'll probably have to work till the early hours to get this done!) is to go through all my transcripts again (only have a handful thank goodness) and apply my new coding frame to my transcripts. My supervisors will be very unhappy with me- especially as this chapter is well overdue!:(
I'm trying to redefine this as a positive!! I'm pleased that I've spotted my mistakes now rather than in September. If I left my qualitative chapter as it stands, then I would be pulled apart if I came across an examiner who is particularly knowledgeable about qualitative stuff. At least now, I have a small window of opportunity to correct my mistakes- although my mistake will likely upset my supervisors further! My supervisors are completely quantitative academics and their very focused on my quantitative chapters (which I've completed) rather than the qualitative chapter, so their far less likely to spot the mistakes with my qualitative chapter. I'm now trying to make sure my qualitative chapter is robust enough to withstand criticism from potential qualitative examiners! What do you all think??
Why oh why do I insist on doing things the hard way round!!!!
I'm waiting on inter-rater reliability - I asked a friend to do it and am waiting on the results. So I've had to cut it completely out of my conference paper and hope nobody notices :$
Pineapple - one way of getting around supervisors in these situations is to say something like
"i am applying the new coding frame as you suggested/as we discussed in meeting x" - then they won't want to mention it because they will think they have forgotten
