go for the tea Teek, you deserve it!! And sure why not have the biscuit as well?! ;)
Glad you got your data set sorted Sneaks, I've got folders full of incomplete/wrong datasets and have set myself done the wrong track many times cos of it....
I've done goals 1 and 2, and also had lunch and applied for a job, so not doing too bad today! Just have to actually get writing now, so...
Goal 3 - finish section on growth and toxin
Goal 4 - finish section on seasonality
Goal 5 - make sure I've included everything on month comparisons...
Thanks Algae, Tea is indeed a wonder, good luck with your writing ambitions. Despite an unpromising start I am now three goals and three tomatoes down - hurray!
Goal 4 (oh, I like that!): Work out how to present data for Section Of Patheticness
Goal 5: Make whatever tables are required for SOP
Goal 6: Write brief para summarising why it was a SOP - but make it sound like that's not my fault.
I have a doctors appointment this morning, so will be off shortly.
Before that, my first goal is to look at the journal guidelines where I'm submitting my article (yes, can you believe it - sup wants me to actually submit something!)
Morning sneaks!
I'm not making any goals today as I'm just going to see what happens. But just wanted to say congrats for your sup signing off on submitting something!! Every little bit helps!! (up)
Fantastic news Sneaks! Hope it goes well :-)
I stayed in last night and clocked up all my graphs and tables for this section, mind-numbing but much needed. Now I need to actually engage my brain and write something more wordy. So, goals:
Goal 1: Define structure for discussion; headings, main points etc.
Goal 2: Fill any gaps and write remaining sections.
Goal 3: Proof read chapter and check all appendices, references etc are present.
Then maybe I can actually send this on to poor sup (have been promising it for several months!)
morning algae, morning teek!
My doctors (nurses actually) appointment went VERY badly. She has taken me off my lovely yasmin pill - because my BMI was 30.4 and she said I've gained weight since last time. Yeah NO S**T - I'm doing a F**ing PhD where I sit 24hours a day! And she refused to believe me that I have lost half a stone in the last 2 weeks and have started the couch 2 5k thing. So she has given me cerazette to take - wonderful, I will be an angry acne monster for the rest of my write up apparently. :-s Think I might just come off the pill completely until I've lost enough weight to go back on Yasmin.
Anyhoo - cup of tea, then back to goal 1 - well I got side tracked and did some other work this mornign so I might finish that first.

This is a great thread! Can I please join in? even though technically I know am not meant to be in the "current phd students" thread. but i do miss it here! it's more active than the postgrad forum.
I've started to look for jobs, and i've been procrastinating working on my cv! it seems like the hardest thing to do. So i've decided today is the day where i'm going to start work on it. And use the tips i used during my thesis writing, of "just work on it for 10 minutes"..
i have a book that is meant to help with writing a cv. so i guess my goal will be to read through the book, and print out relevant things that i can use to build my cv. i am having real trouble listing my skills and stuff and selling myself on my cv :$ but i have to get my cv done, as there's a job i really want to apply for and the deadline is next week!
so if its okay, i'd love to join this one goal thread, as i think it will really help to motivate me to work on my cv and job application forms. honestly if it wasnt for postgraduate forum, i would never have gotten my thesis written and prepared for my viva.
Goal today - read through CV help book. print out relevant things i can put in my cv.
of course Lara, we bow down to your post-doc and postgradforum superiorness (is that a word?)
I've recently written my CV and its had some good comments and I've got through the sift in the only 2 jobs I've applied for it. Unfortunately the CV is a better representation of me than me in interview though :-( PM me if you want to take a look.
Hey Lara, welcome, and well done on finishing your thesis!
Sneaks - wow, what a fascist nurse! Could you just ignore her and see the doc or go get Yasmin from Brook? If it's not Yasmin causing the problem and you feel this is better for your body, appeal the decision!
there is no problem as such, I was just due my 6 month check up and cos my BMI is over, she won't let me have any more. I also realised they've got me down as 5ft 2" when I'm actually 5ft4 - which means I'm probably just overweight not obese (turkey) anyway lol. Hubby is starting couch 2 5k with me on thursday so hopefully the pounds will drop off and I'll be back on Yasmin in no time. Just hoping I don't get preggers before I hand in my thesis!

aww Thanks Sneaks. you are too kind! and lol you're so funny :) thank you, you made my day!
Thanks Sneaks for the offer, I would really appreciate it, that is really nice of you! sending you a pm.
That is great that you're doing the C25k! that is a really cool programme.
Thanks for the warm welcome Teek! and thanks for the kind congratulations- very nice of you!

I've started reading this cv help book, and it gives you objectives to do for the next 3 days! so that's handy.
so this evening, i have to read chapters 1-4 and 8-10.
going to start reading it and then do some exercise (as i have weight to lose!). Then have dinner.(sprout)
Urgh, I was a bad bad Teek yesterday, totally distracted despite the previous days success. And last night (courtesy of sleeping pills) I actually got a decent bit of sleep, meaning today's 3pm start really won't do. I guess this is the downside to staying with your best friend, there are so many interesting conversations to be had, so much tea to be drunk.....:-)
Still, I'm one tomato down and have a cunning plan for finishing off the dratted chapter. Going to steal some chocolate and then hit another into ketchup smush!
Hey whatever you gotta do Teek! Sometimes you need the tea, chat and decent sleep, we are only human!
After days of staring at my chapter hating myself for not doing any work, I figured out that I have to accept that it's boring and I must find a way to make it fun - so I have it almost finished after watching music videos and The Holiday on dvd :) I'm on Bridget Jones Diary now, rewrite of chapter 4 coming up!
Good luck Teek!!
It's true algae, and while the thesis hasn't finished itself, I am feeling a LOT more human for this period of company! Best friend has given up on her own work and is currently baking cookies, I may suggest that she rations them, witholding baked goods until I present a finished chapter!
Do you really manage to work whilst watching DVDs? You are clearly a much better multi-tasker than I! I can just about have music on, providing it's not something that I simply have to sing along to. No Laura Marling for me :-(
oh I like a bit of Laura Marling! I go through phases really, sometimes I can't stand any noise at all, and sometimes I need chilled music, sometimes something more dancy, although this is the first time I've done work with a dvd! I've just been looking at this chapter so long now, I know what I want to say but I was so bored of it that I couldn't write!! So the movie helped, just distracted me enough to get it done! the stuff for the next chapter is just tables and graphs so not too much quietness needed!!
