The One Goal Thread

God I've been so bold this evening...I started a bit late this morning, seems I burned up my motivation yesterday so I finally got down to it about 11am...I was plodding along ok all day, the section I'm writing is one I'm so so bored with so it's not even interesting to me anymore, I'm just doing it so I can get rid of it. However I thought I was nearly finished just before tucking into a late dinner, and decided to watch a movie to spend some quality time with my boyf...cue it's almost 11pm here and I'm still working away with more to do than I realised! But I WILL get this done tonight!!!

But good work on getting into work Ev, 5 tomatoes is good for only coming back to it after taking some time off so kudos! Usually takes me 2/3 days to get back into the swing of things!

And Slizor: it's amazing what you can do when you've got a submission deadline looming less than a month away!! ;-)

Submission submission or normal submission? Because I've got a (second) lit review due in at the end of the month (hence my other thread) and I still burn out after a few hours.

Maybe its a skill you learn through the years.

A

Submission submission! As in I've got my viva date and I REALLY don't want to have to change it so I must submit by 23rd of September....gah!!
Got my chapter finished last night though, and I'm going to proof read it this morning, then send it, before taking what is the first day off in about 4 months I think...I'm off to a BBQ! fun! although might take my laptop and squeeze in some referencing during the quiet moments, may as well use time efficiently and all that! :D

A

Well my day off was lovely, I did take a few hours in the middle to finish some graphs for my appendix and was totally shattered by 10pm! Today I'm proof reading my chapter one last time (I'm actually afraid to send it off and procrastinating terribly...) then moving onto restructuring and rewriting the next 2 chapters...

Tomato 1 here we go!

Hi folks, after finishing my chapter half (now 8,500 words) a week ago, I had some time off. But today I am back, or trying to be, but really need to focus and establish definite goals because I keep drifting about and not really getting any one thing sorted. I hope you don't mind if use this space to do that.

So, here's what I need to do:

1. Establish key books I stil need to read and takes notes from.
2. Get hold of the above - perhaps ordering rom the library.
3. Read and take notes from them.

Have good days everyone.

I am having a bad day. I have a terrible headache, feel quite depressed and couldn't get up this morning. I'm now feeling panicky because I have to sort everything for my end of year panel by the end of this week. The report is more or less written but there is no time for my stand in supervisor to read through it beforehand (it took her 2 months to get round to reading and commenting on a draft chapter I sent her, and even then she only got through half of it before having to do some other work which was more urgent). There are also various admin things which need to be sorted out and I don't want to miss anything out as I'm out of the country next week and won't be able to sort things out then.

Right. First goal is to sort out my skills training record.

A

Whoo ok, chapter is done, fixed, redone, re fixed and re done again. I have finally sent it off. 7 tomatoes down, although I worked through the 5 minute breaks, so it's more like 8. Just had lunch, now it's restructuring the next 2 chapters.
Welcome to the club Eska! Good luck for your book finding, I always loved that bit! And don't panic to much Star shaped, I'm sure you'll get everything sorted, hopefully your sup bucks up tho!

S

Well done getting your chapter sent off Algaequeen.

Goal 1 done. Starting to panic a little less. Can you tell that I hate Mondays? Goal 2 is to finalise my thesis outline.

A

I hope you got on ok there Star shaped.

I've got 18 tomatoes done for today, and well shattered. Off to bed, I've got a lovely set of tables to battle with in the morning awaiting me!

F

Goal for today:
Finish making all of the changed for this results chapter.

A

Whoo Fm you're up early!! Good luck with your results! I'm doing results today myself, I have to sort out tables, and merge the results of 2 chapters together, and take out one of the newly merged section of results...ugh. It's just reformatting and restructuring the chapter but I always find that really difficult to do, I'd almost prefer starting from scratch!

So goal 1 - sort tables :)
goal 2 - fix correlations section, describe and interpret
goal 3 - pca section

Have a great day everyone!

I didn't finish my goal yesterday. I need to add a lot more detail than I first anticipated plus I had a phone call from my friend at 4pm telling me that the flight company we were due to go away with next week has gone bust. So I spent the rest of my time yesterday panicking and making sure we can get our money back before finding an alternative holiday for us to book. :-)

So my first goal is to finish my thesis outline.

I'm so exhausted today! my parents were here yesterday, and left at 5am this morning. Obviously I was busy yesterday with them and then was up at 3am, waved them off at 5am, with just enough time for them to spend 30 mins 'having a go' about "you must really get this PhD done, the sooner the better blah blah" - they have NO idea a) what a PhD is b) what mine is in c) that I spend 12 hour days doing the PhD - I mean do they think I just sit around, I am "getting this PhD done" :-s :-s :-s :-s :-s :-s :-s and then told me off for not eating 5 a day, and then told me I'd never get a job :-s so feeling tired and peed off.

Due to drive up to london tonight, so spending today packing for spending the week up in london and getting over last few days!

N

Oh Sneaks that does sound rather exhausting!

I've been lazy recently but working quite a lot at the salon so need to get into academic-mode again, have done some writing this morning and want to get a bit more done, then going to the gym this afternoon so I'm not tempted to have a nap! Then going to see my horse then read this evening!

Have a lovely day everyone, Nx

S

Oh dear Sneaks, that sounds stressful. Enjoy your week in London!

My first goal, thesis outline, is finally done. The holiday my friend was going to book for us this morning was all booked up so I spent a good chunk of the morning finding something else :$ But this is now all booked! I may skip the gym at 5 and work out at home later because I really need to get on with work.

My second goal is to redraft the body of my end of year report.
