Poor Sneaks :-( Here, have one of your five-a-day (sprout) ;-)
Today, I made it to the office and have already achieved one goal and 2 tomatoes (and lunch with a colleague :$) in the space of 2 hours!
So goal 2 - structure my review so that I can add in more data later when I find it - I've allowed myself 2 hours for this as it's currently just a mass of bullet points as I came across different papers
My second goal is more or less done. I do need to come back to it and tweak a few things but this will be done better with a fresh mind tomorrow. My third goal is to redraft the analysis section I'm including as an appendix with the report.
So far so ok - 330 words written in 50 minutes - obviously much revision is needed but I just want to get it down in some sort of logical order so that I can see if my decision makes sense and then tomorrow I can go over it again - make it sound nice and add in lots of supporting evidence which hopefully I am going to find tonight!
I'm sure this has come up many times before but does anyone have an opinion on a guideline word count to aim for per hour/ tomato or whatever? I was aiming to do 400 in 50 minutes but ended up 70 words off. This is from memory/knowledge/ making it up writing by the way, I always come back and tidy it up and clear up references once I have a first draft.
Goal 2 is more or less done- there is some sort of structure to the thing now.
So goal 3: find lots of literature to support what I am saying
Not up too early algaequeen, I live in Aus, so am already starting my Wednesday.
Not bad on the goal front yesterday. Have done most of the revisions, but I think I'm going to have to go back to the data today to work the rest out. SPSS and NVivo here I come...
Ah ha! Well happy Wednesday then Fm, have a great day! I'm just finishing off my Tuesday now! :-)
As for today, I've got 15 tomatoes done, although I had to take a break this evening to go get food and ended up watching a movie :$ but I did a bit of work after, found some mistakes in my data and have fixed part of it, will see if i can handle doing the rest tonight or I may just leave it for the morning!
Ev, I've no idea how many words I write per tomato, it varies a lot depending on what I'm talking about etc. For me, if I can stay focused for the whole 25 minutes then I'm happy! I'd say just write what you can, don't pressure yourself about how much or how fast you are writing or it could halt your progress. Just do your best as you are, that's all we can ever do.
OK, must get on with things today. My first goal is to get together the analysis which I'm including in my end of year report, because I didn't manage to do this yesterday. :$
My first goal is done. My report is now almost ready to submit. (up)
My next goal is to do a good chunk of transcription for my second chapter.
I am finding transcribing particularly uninspiring today. But got a bit done.
My next goal is to type up notes from some reading I did a while back.
Trying to get back into the work after a few days off - I really should be feeling more urgency than I feel, my first-year viva is tomorrow morning! Haven't done any detailed preparation yet, I just can't make myself worry about it. Not a good thing! So, my goals for today:
1.) Re-read my first year report
2.) Brainstorm a list of questions that might be asked or issues that might be raised
3.) Answer those questions/issues
4.) Think through what my next steps in the research are
Ummmm..... Hopefully all that will put me in a good position for the viva!
I'm feeling pretty tired, after a 9-5 day of solid teaching - not even lunch! Yesterday and parents here before that. But hubs is up in London so I have 2 days to get some proper work done without having to break to pick him up from the station at 6.
So today's goal
Goal 1: make coffee and drink
Goal 2: right up about which control variables I used in my method section
