The whole doctor title can be a bit confusing. My dad was telling me recently that when he got his PhD my grandma was so excited that she was telling everybody who would listen when they were in a supermarket together. Apparently, she mentioned it to the woman on the checkout who immediately began complaining to my dad about her terrible piles!
I think that's probably something I could do with out.
Lol BobNic, yes, I have visions in a few years of sitting on an aeroplane and the stewardess asking if there are any doctors on board, leaving my seat and comforting the unfortunate person requiring assistance with a lecture on the demographics of victorian england for the duration of the flight Lol at the piles!
Thanks Dervish I really hope I get to do this!
Glad Im not the only one indulging in obsessive postman stalking behaviour!Am waiting for news from panel 4, 1 declined in my department so far,no more news apart from that. Looked on some other forums very quite there too,no doubt the storm will begin to hit next week as is the usual pattern. Although part of the torture of this process is that there is NO PATTERN! Feel sorry for everyone having to do MA dissertations while waiting for news, don't know how you do it - well done to you all for managing to keep focused. I done my MA last year after a 7 break (I was a banker)and self-funded to avoid any distractions like AHRC!This year is a different matter, its finally hitting home this year, being in the 1st year of my PhD that I've embarked on something that I can't afford to finish if I don't get funded. AAAAHHH think I got carried away by my idealism upon leaving a sterile, cynical, corporate environment. Never mind eh,I'm sure there's a way. Keep the support going!
Good morning everyone, another day of worry ahead!
I had my first letter related dream last night. I dreamt that the Thin Letter arrived with AHRC stamped in big black bold letters on the back. I raced upstairs to open it and all I found inside was my application, returned, and a letter stating it had been "difficult to choose this year". That was all - neither a rejection nor an acceptance! Then I found myself in a room full of people with exactly the same letter. We were told that this was the letter that usually meant you had gained an award - but this year it would be different. We would need to work as a team and do some kind of task and THEN we would receive the award or be rejected!
Scary stuff! Obviously my subconscious is working overtime and I'm fixated on the fact that so much of this process is based on how well other people do.
No more dreams please!
I'd like to hear lots of good news today!
Nothing for me here today and post surprisingly early.
Need to try and write 1000 words of dissertation today!
I had a dream last week.... I received a letter saying that I had a 1 in 100,000 chance of funding which would be determined by the Saturday night lottery. The machine was called Henry VIII and each ball was named after one of his wives. Anyway Anne of Cleves got the funding I was gutted.....
Nothing for me either - huge pile of post that needed sorting through - cue almost uncontrollable shaking - nothing....
I wish I could get enough sleep to have an AHRC related dream! I did have one a week or so back, but now, with the dissertation and the AHRC and other personal matters I don't sleep enough to dream
