I'm so sorry stressed not sure what to say.... I'm expecting bad news too so I'm trying to research other options and its making me feel slightly better knowing that there is a life beyond the AHRC. Take a bit of time out to review your options, I really hope you can continue with your research somehow....
I've only just managed to log in here - was getting the error message until 10 minutes ago.
Oh Stressed, I am so so sorry. I think we can all tell how much it means to you. I really hope you manage to find another source of funding. Thinking of you x
Not sure how I feel about the whole process today - good and bad news. :-( Congratulations Megara_9191 (up) Am really pleased for you!
Hey, I haven't posted on here before but I've been reading all the comments whilst sat writing my dissertation and waiting for a reply. Today came through a FLoJ for my PhD, and I'm ecstatic. Having failed two years running to get funding for my MA (I'm doing it now with a loan and a job), I had already taken a job offer as I felt sure I would never be chosen by the panel.
Stressed, and everyone else who gets a negative response: don't give up. I've spent the last 24 months in the presence of 'friends' who have funding for science/maths PhDs yet have poor grades and never do any work. I don't think there's anything as annoying or upsetting as someone who really wants and deserves to do a PhD being turned down whilst there is money being thrown away in other departments. Good luck also to everyone else waiting - I can't express how unbelievably rubbish I think this whole AHRC procedure is.
Well done, theselfishgene. I hope there's further good news in this forum soon, and that those who haven't been lucky (and so much is clearly luck!) aren't forced to give up.
Well done theselfishgene... what panel/ subject are you in?
Writing the MA diss whilst waiting is a killer!
Arrrggggghh Stressed, I'm really sorry to hear about that - was really rooting for you. Don't give up though, you're thesis sounded really interesting and if you can just make it through one year then I'd have thought there will be a good chance that your university will choose to fund you under the new system.
Congratulations to those who've got some good news though!
Cheers Guys. I think I'll have been Panel 4 as I'm in 19th century history. However, as I'm an historian of science in a philosophy department, I'm not entirely sure - is there any way to find out? I've got 16 days 'til I hand in and have only written 5,000 words of my 15,000-word dissertation - I was so busy applying for jobs I put my MA work on the backburner. Now I'm stressed about work again instead of funding, and it's a much more pleasant experience!
congrats to our latest success stories, and I hope you can get alternate funding stressed. as people have said, it seems if you can fund the first year then you seem to have a fair chance of getting the rest funded.
as an unpleasant development in my own case, my uni have offered me the accommodation i want, but i have to reply by august 18th or theyll give it to someone else. thanks, ahrc!
i emailed the person responsible for panel 8 but predictably he sent me a generic "we cannot reveal anything" response.
what a quiet afternoon.
so sorry to stressed about the news, I wish I could be as helpful as you always are when someone hears...
no post for me today, though it didn't come till 1.30 so I was biting my nails for half the day.
Well done to the people who got the funding.
See you all again tomorrow morning...

Congratulations to all those with funding!
Sorry to hear about the bad news stressed :-( , like others, I hope you find alternative funding as well.
Good luck to those still waiting.
