Waiting for AHRC news

P

And so the awful morning wait begins again.
I'm for panel 1, keeping all of my limbs crossed.
Actually feel more relaxed this morning (tho doesn't stop constant post watching)

morning! again...

R

no news! again...
not even some junk mail to raise my pulse a bit, I'll just have to make some black coffee instead.

M

Hi everyone, I've not had anything for the past few days either...although yesterday I was convinced that one of the thin letters I've received was the TLoD, but luckily it wasn't.

I'm thinking the RPM and PPM letters won't come out until late August since all responses so far has been for PhDs.

Found this on the AHRC website for next year's competition:

http://www.ahrc.ac.uk/apply/postgraduate.asp

It might be a bit better since the universities themselves will administrate the awards, but on a negative side, there might be more favouritism.

B

Haha - hooray for favouritism, bring on the bribes/blackmail!

For some reason the post here doesn't arrive until late morning/early afternoon. I'm sleeping in to make it go faster. Nothing yet :(

W

interesting find, mskoncept. if i do get funding for the MA, i guess i'll have to make an extra effort to impress my department! i don't get to check the post until after work, so another nervous trip home for me tonight!

M

Yea me too...unless you're applying to a completely different university for PhD study, in which case they'll have no idea who you are!

Also, I'm thinking maybe universities which currently have their own studentships will no longer have them if they're successful in gaining these BGPs, which means less chances for us to get funding...but who knows, I'm sure there'll be plenty of time to stress over that next year. For now, I just wanna know about MA funding!!!

P.S. When is it OK to call the AHRC??? I never received my postcard back in May, but spoke to someone who assurred me my application will be entered into the competition, but I'm being paranoid and think they have lost my application!

P

One panel three grade three here out (not mine).\
Are there any good news stories?!
If not if I get anything in the post tomorrow I swear I'm not opening it.

R

Just being a little cold hearted,
but surely the more bad news you hear, the better the chances are for you?

P

As long as it wasn't your husband getting the bad news...

M

Sorry to hear that pamplemousse, about your husband. hope yours will be successful. It must be really hard for you both to be students, funding 2 PhDs...

W

mskoncept, let us know if you do ring, and what they tell you! i received my postcard back from them, but im paranoid my envelope might be lost in the post, and isnt it true that you only have 2 weeks to accept an offer?

thats unfortunate pamplemousse, although if its grade 3 it might be worth applying next year. although its bad news for us all if grade 3s arent good enough to secure funding...

S

Nothing here - just plucked up the courage to check behind the door curtain and not even a utility bill to get my heart rate going! Its rarely any later than this so I may well have a day off of post.

Pamplemoose - so sorry to hear about your husband - totally gutting - is he ok?

H

its pointless calling or emailing.

I called to ask if they had a record of what letters they dispatch - they don't

Also, they said they hope to get everyone notified by the end of august.

I doubt they'll tell you more.

B

Yeah - I doubt that they'll tell you much at all over the phone. I know what you mean regarding the lost letter nightmare though. I went through a long no-postcard-panic last year worrying that my application or my results letter had been lost or (more bizarrely) stolen. Its so easy to assume the worst once you submit the form and have to trust a series of different people to pass a few bits of paper around the country.

Anyway, should the worst happen I don't think they're all quite as officious and cold hearted as they sometimes seem from our end; they may well ring you to ask what's going on if you haven't replied to an offer. I got a call from them earlier in the year because the DOB on my form was wrong, they seemed strangely human!

Sorry to hear about your husbands result pamplemousse, I hope you get some better news soon. I know we're only drawing upon a small pool of people on these forums, but has anybody anywhere had a FLoJ yet? Is no news, good news?
