In the UK the short answer is almost certainty no. UK Universities see overseas students as sources of revenue, not cases for funding.

There was a woman at lancaster that did hers in 2 yrs 2 months, but effectively (I believe) had to sit around for the next 10 months prior to submitting.

Its probably not a Lancashire expression (Hobsons choice) , but widely used up here .

Regarding the latter ask the admissions tutor to provide some 'real life' examples (as opposed to what people could go into to) of what previous students are doing.

Realistically, funding for a non UK (or EU) national is going to be very (read very, very, very, VERY) difficult to obtain. You'd be best advised as regards the UK to look for funding from within your own country.
