How do they take it?

Its alright saying that Shani from you point of view, but you have also to see it from theirs. You have to bear in mind that top people in their fields will get 100's [I am informed] emails a day. If they were to reply to all of them fully what actual work would they get done.

broke....... any money making ideas.....

I had a 'money making' idea re academia. A twist on the essay writing industry, but back a step. A business that undertakes all the research for students and presents it in a comprehensible manner that they can then go and write a decent essay.

does anybody´s life suck so much as mine?

Sorry, being UK based No. I'm sure there must be something like this US based though.

Constructively, very few Americans come on this site. You will do far better finding an equivalent US version of this site. Good luck.

I agree re Nottingham. Sadly, the same can also be said for Manchester.

searching a funded phd position in organic chemistry

Saiful..broadly speaking you are absolutely wasting your time with posts like the above on here. We are ALL Postgrad students and not in a position to offer you what you are asking for. Your best [only] option is to do a search yourself via Google of relevant Uni's.

Other than that you may want to look at the Links to the left re funding. Don't get too excited though, as its very, VERY thin on the ground.

78 applicants for one lectureship!!!

I'm informed that maths tutoring [GCSE/A level] is quite lucrative if you have the skills. I have friend who does quite nicely [£25 an hour with very limited prep] off an advert in the local paper re this.

Here's a basic spec of things that you will want....

Dual core processor

15.4" Widescreen Display

1,024MB DDR2 SDRAM

120GB Hard Disk

Dedicated graphics card [a must]

8 × Multi-standard DVD/CD Burner with DVD-RAM and Dual Layer support

Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g

Oops...Aldi.com. I lied its £450. Sorry.

BTW you should also consider whether you are going to work on it 'all the time' hence a 15.4 screen is really necessary or it will be just as and when [get away with a smaller screen]. Also bear in mind weight [7 lb monster can soon get tiresome to lug around] and warranty. Every one I have had has had something wrong with it. A 3 year warranty is therefore nice.

Probably minimum 1Gb of RAM, and 120GB of HD space. Out of interest Aldi have something like that for under £400 [I believe].

Having a healthy bank balance helps greatly too.
