'I know that majority of UK citizen appear to like being subject to totalitarian control by the government'.

Bit of a sweeping statement that Otto. Where can I review the research you undertook to back this up?

Isn't it rude guys what she did?

Hmmm...I think the age thing is a bit of a smokescreen. It's the kind of thing said when people want to let someone down light. Lot nice than saying you’re dull or such like. I'm sure if they'd have hit it off 3 years here or there wouldn't have mattered much. In my case, the last Mrs. Golfpro was almost 13 years my junior.

I'm being very flippant here because I would hope after 'just one dtae' said gent isn't too emotionally damaged, other than his male pride.

She sounds just like my type of gal actually. Can I have her number?

Working V PhD.... why am I doing this?????

'My friends who could not get a PhD position in these labs are now doing PhD in US and UK in good labs'.

In all honesty I would imagine that they now consider themselves to have had an very, very lucky escape.

Let me get this right....

You went out with someone. It didn't work out. She paid [retrospectively for half the dinner costs], and let you down lightly.

Cryogenics..you need to start 'getting out a bit more' if you think that's rude.

When I said 'I would' I meant you [as in if I were you].

..'can anyone tell me about the career prospects of the programme'.

I would ask the course Admissions Tutor [bit late in the day arguably now], for some actual 'names' of former students and what they have done. Beware of him/her just banding around statistics. A good idea is to ask what the last 2 years students are actually doing now. He/she should know as much Uni's send out questionaires.

Strangely Fairhaven considers itself posher [literally]. Older course and all that.

bazzab...I'm based in the NW [actually at Uni at Lancaster].

Used to be a member at Royal Lytham in my [very] younger days. Now have the occasional round at DeVeres Herons Reach. Keeps you busy this PhD game.

Is there any software for creating knowledge/organisational networks?

OniGraffle [especially if you're a Mac user]. Can be easily found and downloaded at many torrent sites.

Golfpro's golf tips section:

'I have a very nasty slice though'

Quick fix...You will [probably] be doing what's technically called 'hitting from the top', thereby throwing the club on the outside. Try 'swinging out' to an pretend target some 50 yards to the right of the primary target. You'll hit from the inside that way. When [days/weeks] you start pushing/hooking the ball, go back to normal thinking.

I'd love to get involved with my Uni's golf team but as I am still technically a professional it makes me persona non grata even for a [yes on awednesday afternoon] knockabout sadly. I'm apparently seen as unclean.

In the UK funding is generally for 3 years [generally]. Notwithstanding that, you appear to be under the impression that funding will be reasonably straightforward to obtain[?]. A scan through this forum should tell you that this is not the case. Funding for UK students is very difficult to obtain. For a non-UK/EU national it is considerably, CONSIDERABLY more so.

There is some funding for foreign students available [see the navigation links left], but places are limited and I am informed [read back through the forum] that such like is generally intensely competitive, and very over-subscribed.

Are you talking about the USA here? This is mostly a UK biased forum.
