Hmmm...I think the age thing is a bit of a smokescreen. It's the kind of thing said when people want to let someone down light. Lot nice than saying you’re dull or such like. I would ask the course Admissions Tutor [bit late in the day arguably now], for some actual 'names' of former students and what they have done. Beware of him/her just banding around statistics. A good idea is to ask what the last 2 years students are actually doing now. He/she should know as much Uni's send out questionaires.

In the UK funding is generally for 3 years [generally]. Notwithstanding that, you appear to be under the impression that funding will be reasonably straightforward to obtain[?]. A scan through this forum should tell you that this is not the case. Funding for UK students is very difficult to obtain. For a non-UK/EU national it is considerably, CONSIDERABLY more so.

There is some funding for foreign students available [see the navigation links left], but places are limited and I am informed [read back through the forum] that such like is generally intensely competitive, and very over-subscribed.
