PhD and pregnancy- advise needed

A certain Mr.Chaplin was fathering children at 72. Plenty of time at 40 I'd have thought.

That's a very poorly written question, if indeed it is a question. I'm assuming your enquiring into the availability of funding for international students etc.. Well not great news I'm afraid. Firstly, I would suggest you do a searchh of this forum for 'similar questions' and review the responses. Secondly, have a look at universities you are interested, in and see if any offer funding for foreign students.

I would hazard a guess and suggest funding will be virtually non-existent. UK Uni's are quite literally in the 'business' of providing educations as regards foreign students [eg. its a business to make money]. If there is funding in my expereince it goes to UK nationals.

Well yes I agree Lofty. That said PhD's are effectively obligatory if you want anything resembling a decent academic career.

I actually wondered how said person undertook 'lecturing' straight from a undergrad degree. I'm assuming you mean in an informal sense?

Changing topics - what are my chances?

You also appear to be contradicting yourself. One minute you don't quit things easily [other than Computing and Chinese politics etc that is] and have a burning desire to pursue etc...etc... Another minute getting a studentship is such a hassle. The latter comment is not a good sign [IMO] btw.

Just an observation.

See the funding link in the left navigation panel and follow the appropriate bit for international students. Also see jobs.ac.uk. Other than that a lengthy trawl of likely universities and funding bodies. As I said obtaining funding for a non-UK national in the UK is difficult [exceedingly], so you would be well advised to look at funding bodies/opportuinities in your own country.

No magic formula I'm afraid.

What exactly do you want? Finding a university to study at is a relatively straighforward task if you have access to the internet and are personally prepared to do some research. It sounds though that you are asking on here for funding (?). Be advised, everyone [to a person] on here is a STUDENT and will not be able to 'help you out' as regards that. I suggest you do some research youself, although be prepared for some dissappointment [in the UK] as funding for non-UK nationals is hens teeth stuff. See previous posts for advice re this anyway.

Comp Sci Masters?
G

I think the 'computing course' idea may not really be a great one. The country is literally awash with Computing grads/postgrads that can't get work [it's all gone to India, in case you didn't know]. Strangely I know at least 4 Comp postgrads that wished they'd have pursued the maths route as there are 'more jobs'. Sorry.

...'but it really shouldn't affect their decision'.

but it probably will. We are in the real world here folks.

Teacher Training Units

Yes I do take the point. The thing is I have experienced so many 'wing and a prayer' lectures that anything in this direction is a good step. Anyway, as suggested I would think such courses [or even formal teaching qualifications] are going to be de rigour in most universities in the near future.

Bearing in mind some of the poor quality lecturing I have experienced it can only be a good thing. Maybe academics don't like doing it, but that’s not really the point.

Well I'm very gald you will. It's a sad reflection on a person if they can't get past little things said on an internet forum.

Thought I did. Didn't I actually use the 'a' word then? My appologies. As a btw, grudges aren't nice things H. Perhaps you should let this one go.

I've been to UCLan which is relatively lowly ranked and Lancaster, which is very highly ranked. There is in my opinion little to choose between them in many respects. Of course I attended both and feel qualified to offer an opinion.

I'm presuming that statement implies you think you're 'better than' anyone that attended UCLan?
