IT'S A FIGURE OF SPEECH. Google it.

Yes. I was basically cheesed off with being 'suckered' into one of these old threads again, and noticed his 2006 post. Definitely jumped to a wrong conclusion there. One of those ‘give a dog a bad name’ incidences.

Great. We're going down this dragging up of old posts 'for laughs' idea again. Dan, some things you do are amusing BUT the above really got up a lot of people noses last time. One to bear in mind next time you are bored and thinking of doing similar.

He's at risk of getting the sack [has anyone mentioned that?]. Staff have to sign a code of conduct document as part of their Contract of Employment which prohibts this for obvious reasons. Basically, what he's suggesting is 'not on' for so many reasons. Tell this persons boss fullstop.

Achievement vs Qualification?

Well IMO it's something to talk about at interview but it would have helped a lot more if you had 'actually' published them.

Trick or Treat!

Has anyone noticed the conspicuous lack of any mention of Guy Fawkes in the media these days? He seems to have been more or less usurped by the phrase ‘Bonfire night’. I wonder if it’s another New Labour invention. Perhaps they aren't keen on the connotations.

Is it worth looking for PhD funding with a 2:2 and masters?

Yes again.

I was always led to believe [from on here] that supervisors/Depts get a bit testy with students when the 3 years are up [eg. most are keen to get students off the books after this point]. I certainly didn't think the [directly] above post was the norm.

Most Academics are Sick People

To sum up what you're basically saying in a sentence is, I'm right because I say I’m right and anyway everyone knows I'm right [so there!]. The only problem is no one agrees with you. Indeed I'd be amazed if anyone on here actually did agree with you [not for the reasons you think].

There are a variety of options available if you are having difficulties with a supervisor. The approach you appear to be taking isn't one I'd personally follow.

Signing off on this one obviously.

But you're not proving anything. All you're doing is saying I [and a couple of friends] had a bad expereince with an academic[s]. Thats not proof. Its just a very narrow personal opinion. It certaintly isn't grounds to suggest most academics have mental health problems. Prove it to me that 'Most Academics are Sick People'.

I tend to expect logical, reasoned argument. Making wild and frankly ridiculous statements generalising from your very limited personal experience to the whole of the academic world is going to get ridiculed on here. Suprise.

You think thats 'proof' Metal...and you're actually doing a PhD?

Most Academics are Sick People

Very much a sweeping generalisation in my opinion. On reflection you surely must realise what a ridiculous statement your by-line was Metal.

Jobseekers Allowance - Anyone else claiming whilst writing up?

Neither do I Mistake..see what the big issue is that is. I don't think I'd want to work for anyone who thought it was 'wrong' to claim a benefit that I was legally and also morally entitled to. What else would they have issues with....sick pay? I'm intrigued where you are getting all this form MistaG. How do you know bigger corporations have issue employing an individual who may have claimed JSA benefit?
