Jobseekers Allowance - Anyone else claiming whilst writing up?
G

Yes I was wondering why future employers would be that interested that someone claimed JSA benefit once. I'm also wondering how a future employers would find out?

What do people do to stop themselves piling on the pounds?
G

Bit of a strange one this. I've noticed over the few months I've been coming on here that a lot of PhDers complain that they have/are putting on weight due to the nature of the research/writing process. Just wondering whether anyone does something specifically to combat this [other than swearing off the Cadbury's and doing a 5 mile run at 6 every morning]?

Is anyone going to or at Lancaster

What you'll need for starters is a hard hat and some steel toe capped boots. The place is a permanent building site.

YAWN...oh my goodness I am tired.

I'm just wondering whether this going to be an absolute exit or a MistaG type exit involving numerous Frank Sinatra type comebacks.

Now before anyone gets offended I meant that in the fun that certain posters so seem to crave on here.

Couldn't resist.

I'm kind of wondering what excitement people actually expect on a PhD forum such as this. Arguably the nature of the forum hasn't changed but just reverted to its intended purpose. It shouldn't be seen [IMO] as a vehicle to ease the psychological stresses for just a small clique of posters [what it was becoming], but rather should be for the wider PhD community. I’m not suggesting it can’t be fun too but you can’t get away from its primary purpose. There’s a big web out there for those who are just 'bored'.

His constant asking to be banned [and was it ever constant] resulted in him being banned.

Bit selfish there H. I too was under the impression he asked to be banned as it was interfering with his studies. Was that not the case? Of course I might be confusing him with mini-DanB.

How many PhD places did everyone apply for?

kabhihaan_kabhinaa I take it you are a non UK/EU national, and needing funding? Root of your problem I would imagine.

Genuine mistake on my part at 6:02 in the morning. I would have hoped the obviously sincere nature of my reply would have indicated that. Not entirely sure that isn't obvious.

There have been quite a few posts re telephone interviews and indeed interviews in general and what to expect. A quick search may well prove fruitful.

I'm afraid its an impossible order. No UK university will lend you money [they don't lend UK students money let alone foreign students]. They see YOU as the revenue source not the other way round.

Well that comment says more about you than me. I was attempting to express genuine concern [albeit clumsily as can be manner]. I would hope someone would do exactly the same for me if I was behaving similarly on here.

A bit bored is an understatement. I'm sure DanB is a very nice chap [seriously], but I have to wonder what a psychologist would have made of his recent obsessive posting antics. NONE of the above sentence is meant maliciously at all.

Did anyone read the article in the Guardian about undergrad code of conduct yesterday?
G

There has been a lot about them in the THES, especially the bit(s) designed to prevent legal recompense for disappointing teaching etc. The opinion of an education legal expert was that it was essentially an unfair contract term and most unlikely to hold up to any legal scrutiny in a court if a student had a fair case.
