That's fantastic! Have PM'd you :)
Good afternoon all and welcome to the thread Mathsgirl! :) I hope your headache clears soon. I had a similar experience the other day. I wrote about one sentence, gave up, went for a pub lunch and then a nap! In fact last week was bad all in all but made up for it with a very productive bank holiday weekend, I even managed half a day off on Sunday and yesterday.
Tulip - I also find it hard balanced data collection and writing, I'll be done next week which will be great as I need to focus on writing now.
Aisling - glad to hear you got some fresh air and exercise too and best of luck finishing your two chapters off.
Glowworm - I hope all is well with you!
I had tons of small jobs this morning and squeezing in a couple of hours writing now. Aim is to tidy up the final section in chapter 2 (about 500 words) and then finish for the day.
Best of luck everyone and anyone I've missed :)

As a last resort I'm sending out a request for this article on here. If a kind soul out there has access and can email it to me, I'd be incredibly grateful! :)

Morning all!
Great to see so many people about. I'm realising that updating on here everyday is not always productive for me, especially those days where I'm in and out of meetings all day. Today though is a full writing day! I try and have 2-3 of these a week. I like to have full days set aside.
Silverlining - I hope your progress is going well and I completely understanding that this isn't motivational for everyone. Glowworm, Tulip and Aisling B, hope all is going well.
Glowworm - the idea of the thesis as a starting point helps me with my perfectionism and writers block, very good advice :)
My progress...
On Tuesday I managed 1100 words in the end and was pleased with that. Wednesday and Thursday I managed much less between meetings.
Today the aim (as always is 500 words) anything over is a bonus. Going for a run later (training for a half marathon) and that is keeping me motivated.
Best of luck everyone

Good luck AislingB and welcome to the thread!
Good luck Glowworm.
I had a last minute request to present a poster at a conference next week and I couldn't turn it down. I tried to finish it over the weekend but it took yesterday in the end to finish. Done now! :)
I want to finish this current chapter tomorrow so goal today is to finish section 2.
Good luck everyone!
Well done glowworm on reaching your goal yesterday! I hope today is as productive! :) Oh and GrumpyMule was the brand on my coffee cup the day I signed up, so just went with that. Regretting it just slightly now :-P haha
I was in the uni office yesterday and had one distraction after the other, resulting in little writing - again! I did however get many important small jobs done.
Today I have shut myself away - quite literally and ready for a good stint of writing. Goal as always is a modest 500 words on the literature review.
Have a productive day everyone.

Thanks glowworm! Your advice is always great and very reassuring! Good luck today with your final background section :)
Good luck too to everyone else!
I've completed my first goal already! Abstract submitted - now back to the chapter (going to need another coffee before I get stuck into this!)
Thanks for joining us Intothespiral! The more the merrier! I hope you get a bit of PhD time today after all that teaching and marking.
Glowworm, hope you managed to make progress on your background edits.
Silverlining, hope you reached your 2 goals too.
OK. So I've had four VERY productive meetings so far this week but the writing has slipped. I've only managed a few hundred words on my chapter and half a conference abstract.
Today's goals:
1) Finish and submit conference abstract.
2) Finish section 2 of the Lit review
GM
Morning everyone!
Also ended up reading lots yesterday though I prefer silverlinings "lost in a galaxy of literature" I might have to use that in future.
I have a 2 hour meeting this morning and a then my (penultimate!) piece of data collection this afternoon. That's 4 hours out of my day so have set a modest goal to finish section 2.2 of my lit review. (300 words)
Hope you all have a productive day!
I have access to that :) If you like, PM me an email and I'll send you a PDF

hmmm.. sounds iffy to me.
Your supervisor know's you only human and need to support yourself financially as well as need something to be working towards. 6 months is a long time with nothing in writing or nothing official.
My advice would be to keep all doors open. You have clearly worked hard on this proposal. If you are certain you would like to work with this certain potential supervisor then are there any other funding avenues you could pursue together? Maybe it is time to stop and evaluate the situation and be a little more direct with him?
This is not a criticism of you. I can understand that it's difficult as he is the one with the potential promise of funding but I would just advise you to 'not put all of your eggs in one basket' as they say and explore other options. I think this is a little insensitive maybe of your potential supervisor so consider whether or not you like the idea of working with him for another 3+ years.
Also, could you consider getting another academic involved in the proposal? It is the norm at most institutions to have 2 supervisors. Another academic might have other ideas (for the proposal itself, funding etc..)
Best of luck

PS. Following on from my little rant on here yesterday, I found some users writing diaries on here from a few years ago. This prompted me to start my own here...
Good to see you both here! I didn't know whether or not this thread would attract any interest. Maybe I should have called it just the "thesis writing diary!". Glad to see you both here.
Good luck Mathcomp!
Silverlining - hope you reach your goals today!
Today's goal is
* Finish Lit review section 2.2 (about 500 words)
Reward = a game of squash with a friend :)

Inspired by Lara and Jojo who did this on here a few years ago now.
Been struggling with motivation recently. This forum has been a great source of support and at least kept me away from Netflix when having a low day. The aim of this thread is to make myself accountable to a daily report of my progress whether anyone reads it or not. It seems like others have found this process useful :)
My agreed deadline for a full draft is 31st August. At the moment I have almost 3 of 8 chapters drafted.
The deadline for my current chapter is 22nd April. The following chapter deadline is 16th May, the following the 30th June, 31st July and finally 31st August.
I'm going to start off by posting very brief daily summaries of what I've achieved and if I reached my goal or not. Sounds simply but like I say, I've been struggling and hoping this will help!
