Germany is "Free". why you don't get it from there?

By the way, I emailed an informal interest to the groups I was interested in a year in advance of starting a PhD. They ALL invited me to come and have a look around there departments (and told me to send CV and references and an application form just in case I did want to apply to get the ball rolling). I sent an email to Birmingham since they did not let me know their decision on the day.

I got offers on the spot at the University of Edinburgh and University of Surrey. Birmingham took a week until I recieved a letter of offer. Don't worry about the interviews. I really enjoyed them, since they are more like an informal look around the department and a chat. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info guys. It's good to know. I just thought that I would be obliged to use it in a useful way...not blow it on booze and holidays. BUT thats great that I can!!!!

Depends if one of your annoying housemates is sitting on the sofa and you have to go around their big feet.

i have always wanted to do somthing in art/design. Made a huge-wrong decision in choosing a completely unrealted degree,computer science. : | Is there any courses that would allow me to grab something back? I hold an Art alevel though.

Nick, which offer did you get? The one with the email? You said "many of them said.....", so did they give you the offer on the spot or what? Just wanted to know. This is my first interview.

Hmmm, is it a 2- or 3-seater sofa? Are you sat in the middle or near one of the arms?

Anon is right, it is annoying (as a female, I find the ones which start 'Sir' especially irritating!) but not worth the gastric ulcer! One also lives in hope that having found the forum, the message posters will also find the 'PhDs Explained' and 'Funding' links and perhaps be able to put the information to good use.

bloody hell stu, you really do have an axe to grind about this. I totally sympathise with you but I think you need to make a nice cuppa, maybe have a hob nob or two and relax before you give yourself a gastric ulcer
