Search for a deapartment you like and apply for a PhD, no one is going to do it for you!

Say why you want to do it, and anything you have done in the past that shows this. Also say what you want to do in the future and how this course will help you achieve that, you just need to make it clear that you're not just doing a MSc because you don't know what else to do. Good luck!

I thought with most places they make you do the MPhil in the first year and only let you carry on to the PhD once you have proved yourself. Surely if Garbabge isn't putting enough effort in, his supervisor will realise and not let him carry on.

Folk, don't get hard on Garb Age. A good percentage of PhD students' main aim is to get the title 'Dr'. But that is certainly a narrow way of objecticizing ones PhD. Frankly speaking speaking, Garb got to withdraw and use his first class to look for a job. Obtaining a PhD is only an initiation into proper research.

I'm a year into my PhD and would like to transfer to another University. I'm finding my supervisor inadequate and unhelpful, having only seen me for a total of 2 hours in the last year. I'm not sure how to go about this!? I'm worried that it will sound, to a prospective supervisor, that I'm giving up or causing trouble. How is a University transfer looked upon by academic staff? I don't want to put my current Uni in a bad light, but I just know I won't progress in this situation.

Can anyone please tell me which international Universities DON'T have a tuition fee of completing a PhD? So far, I only know of Sweden. Anywhere else? I'm hoping to study Asian Archaeology, so it would be great if there was a fee-waivering or scholarship available to a University in Asia.

The ones I found also exclude students.
