pippo, I'm sure you may have a good point, but probably best not to use enzymes as an example on a social science thread. There's a reason a lot of us quit 'proper' science after GCSE.

the only problem you can face during a phD is to start with a bad project based on crap if any previous data that doesnt offer you any reasonable alternative and of course you could suffer the lack of important reagent (like working on enzyme without having substrates and product).
most important phD is a training into techniques the only problem is when you are not learning them.

its your phD not theirs
if you are not motivated why should them??!! a phD is the first step into academic research where you'll have to be the one that motivates others. you have to learnt to walk by yourself
your supervisor has to give you advice but it is not his phD it is yours

I wanted to know if I finished my PhD in human physiology could I still have an opportunity to find experience in a lab e.g become a technician and then go and do a lab based post doc? Will I be overqualified to do a normal technician job?

Where are all these hot supervisors? Why have I never come across any? Does it depend on the research area?

Seems to be a distinct lack of tasty academics in the science area...or am I wrong?

Wahey anyone fancy starting a calendar of hot male supervisors??…obviously this would involve us girlies having to do some vetting [*sigh*] to find the appropriate candidates for Mr January/Feb/March – all could be done at a mutually convenient location and all in the name of “research” ..yep so more flirting and more *ka - ching* of photos apparatus …

What motivates you, why they should let you, future aspirations, experience of the field you are applying for

I've been researching my masters, and have finally narrowed it down to three, but I don't have any real information about postgraduate study, and not sure if I can apply to all my choices. Do I have to choose just the one, or can I apply to all three? And can I apply for funding to all three? I'm applying to the AHRC.
