4 supervisors?
G

I have several people involved in my project - I have to meet with them separately, but it works!! I organise meetings with them that are more like sessioons for asking advice on how to do stuff, as well as update them on progress etc.

Flirting

Don't do it! I'm all for relationships with your hot supervisor (I am now happily married to my undergrad personal tutor), but if you're not serious then it isn't worth it!

How many hours shoud I work per week?
G

Got to work p/t to finance my PhD so only registering for p/t study - I'd go mad trying to complete in three years with any sort of job!

Disability

If a university won't try to make a significant effort to accommodate you then I'm sure you can sue the pants off them, by which time you'll have so much cash for your studies you can afford to go anywhere. Seriously, best thing to do is to go and see the disability or admissions coordinator for the department and discuss it with them , but it shouldn't be a problem.

Proposal/Future Job
G

I want to do something in a relatively new field, but looking at job ads for current academic jobs, my interests don't really apply to any of the job descriptions. Should I do something completely mainstream???

Stu, are you home student?

Ref

Can your referees reveal personal information about you?

Disability
G

I suppose it really depends on what the disability is. I am partially deaf, and find that the main concern for universities is that I wouldn't hear a fire alarm, which isn't the case, so its not a problem. If the disability would prevent you from doing the PhD and there is no arrangements the university can make to allow you to do the PhD then, that would prevent the project being offered to you. But I can imagine that it is rare for a disability be a problem, seeing as you have already been to university before.

Uk UNI

Anyone studying at Newcastle Uni. WHat is it like there and is it difficult to get a PhD place there. How is student support there?

Proposal/Future Job
G

Yes, I am very interested in PhD work, however I am concerned for the job prospects afterwards.

Disability

Does a disability affect you getting a PhD place? I find that most universities say it don't but I beleive it does. Anybody in same situation?

PhD Vs EngD
G

This might not be the right place to ask about an EngD, but basically I have been offered both a PhD and an EngD in the same field of study, at different Uni's. I'm not too familiar about the EngD though and need some advice.

Which one is more respected in industry? Anyone here have any experience with an EngD?
