i have saved up for one year, i keep trying for my second year grant but if i don't get it, i don't think i can carry on doing my phd...are there many students out there who had to stop their studies because they run out of money???

What do you mean for reputation of the supervisor? Do you refer to how does he help the students, his availability or to his publications and experience?

I really think it is your job to find out which ones are out of date, there are quite a lot of them. One is at Uni of Sussex, and one is at Leeds. Both of these are chemistry based PhDs, so that should point you in the right direction.

I don't think you need to dress too smartly, maybe get yourself some black trousers, a blouse and some flat soled shoes (for comfort). Just go smart casual. Then after the first day, if everyone else is wearing jeans then you wear what you would feel most comfy in

Im in a right dilema, i have been offered sponsorship for a PhD in communication systems. However, my outcome at the end of the PhD is to get a job and not stay in acedemic. Is it worth doing the PhD? or shall i go into industry now? I do enjoy the subject area i am going to research but im not sure if the PhD will benefit me in "the real world".

hello, am going to be taking my phd as well as teaching at one of the uni of london campus. we are having a research training programme next week. what should i wear? i only have jeans and sporty clothes. is that ok, considering that they expect me not to just be a student but also to teach? its my first job, so excuse me the question sounds silly!!! should i go off and get a suit, dress, skirt???? help!!!
