No secrets: I sent a lot of application forms and I never stopped to email to the admission office of the Universities and to the Professors: I think that this is the best way to catch any new opportunity available!
Anyway, my problem is about the supervisors cause one seems to be more available while another seems to be absent. Moreover I saw Guardian web site and I put in the first place of Universities the Imperial College and at the 20th the UCL.Is it true?

The bigger lab might be the better choice if the supervisor is well known. The supervisor will have collaborations with other labs and will have network of connections to other labheads which could help you when you try to find a Postdoc.

Well, it would seem that it is the supervisors job to cancel the ad one they have found a student for their Phd. So you should be complaining about the lazy supervisors who can't be bothered to inform FindA that the position is filled.

Maybe I should ask the people at the Institute for Historical Research...

I agree. Hang in there, I would stick with biology if that's what you really want. There seems to be too many people who want to study ecology than there are places. Just out of interest how did you end up with the PhD offer in education if your interest is in biology?

Please could I get more info on the student travelcards? What if you are registered as a student with a research institution in London but uni is not based in London? Many thanks.

I forgot to mention that the reduction for travelcards through railcards is only if available if you buy an all zones travelcard.
