Sorry Roan for the delay. The interview was very fine - no surprises! Only questions whose answers were on my finger tips. Connectivity, however, was an issue -they had to redial about 3x! They gave the slot to someone they'd seen face-to-face..abit of unfair advantage I'd say. It's Edinburgh..are you slated for an interview with them?

The retake was due to a personal problem rather an accademic failure... I know that a lot of people say this excuse but in my case unforunately it was true... I wish it was just an excuse. Thats why I think it shouldn't matter in my applications for PhDs. Any way i ve got my own funding and the PhD is in entire different subject than my MSc...

Yeah, you should also look up the impact factor of the journals, you should be able to find the info by typing "impact factor" into google.

At the end of the day finding the wright supervisor (for you)is totally down to luck.

Well the number of publications alone will not tell you much- you will also have to look at the quality of the journals. In molecular biology people regard Nature, Science, Nature or a Cell paper the highest.
