PhD Part Time

You'll have to discuss this with your supervisor and the head of department. It might be possible but this will depend on how good you are.

BBSRC funding
G

It depends - I'm funded by BBSRC but they pay the money to my university to hand out to me monthly as part of their Doctoral Training Account scheme. I also get CASE money at the start of each 3 month period.

PhD in Canada
G

Thank you so much for all this great info, especially Dev and Alan. I only just rechecked my post after a long vacation so apologies for not thanking until now. How well-respected is a Phd, in general terms, from Canada? How difficult is it to get a place? Many thanks again.

All the past queries talk about finding out the reputation of the supervisor rather than the uni is more important. I want to know how you find this out, I am an International student so travelling to UK is not possible. Is it rude to email his students? and will they give an accurate view of the whole thing? or is there another way?

PhD morons!

Dear Bob,
you are not far from the right...nevertheless I can say that after 2 years of work experience in a biotechnology company, I am planning to do a PhD. This is because in the real world of work, it could be difficult to improve your expertise...in addition most of the company like to hire people who already know what to do. So in the real world there are not opportunity to learn new thing and go haed, where could you improve your knowledge?

Totally hopeless?
G

Thanks Lewis. As I've understood it, funding for EU students is limited to fees only. When it comes to funding of living expenses, I've found nothing. Are there ANY possibilities of that?

PhD morons!

Bob's blatantly posted a comment like that just to get a reaction- more like immature student!

Woha- lets not start speculating who's a moron and who's not had enough fun lately....

PhD morons!
G

Hmm, missing out on all the fun? What fun? My PhD geeks/colleagues don't have 1/10th the personality of my non-academic friends and spend most of their time gossipping. And on the subject of bitterness and isolation,...I have a funny feeling the person who wrote this is a classic case of the PhD MORON.

PhD morons!
G

Most academics i know are stuck up - so they're just practicing for the future.

PhD morons!
G

All I am saying is that Bob may feel left out of all the fun????? the others are having?

PhD morons!
G

Is Bob feeling left out of all the other stuff the young PhD students are doing??? and is this the reason for his anger? Is this a case of the fox calling the grapes which it couldn't reach sour???? Like in one of Aesop's tales.
