thesis - scared

Four weeks is possible, but you have to forget your fear and get down to it. Starting to write any new piece of work, even a new chapter in a dissertation you're already working on, is difficult and easy to ignore, but you just have to sit down and get SOMETHING on paper. Remember, you may be scared that it isn't your best work, but you don't get anything if you hand in nothing.

If you really are lagging that far behind then get finished what you can and make sure the finished parts are complete. Don't fuss around with the figures too much, they don't have to be brilliant- they just have to show what they should and have decent figure legends.

DON'T WORRY! Quite frankly, if your supervisor thinks you should transfer to a PhD he/she will transfer you, regardless of the quality/quantity of your thesis. Same goes if he/she thinks you shouldn't. Unless you hand in absolute rubbish, which you certainly won't. Four weeks are plenty to put together a report, you just don't go out for 4 weeks and get it done.

Publishing as undergraduate

It is possible to have some of your undergraduate work published. If your supervisor might want to write it in to one of their publications -if the data is very good. It is highly unlikely to publish it as a first author yourself. So i would check with your undergrad supervisor first.

something else - my experience has also been that PhD students are lucky to have published more than one paper at the time of writing their thesis. Like I said, maybe it's just the subject area...

Publishing as undergraduate

What subject area are we talking about here? As a chemist, I thought publishing as an undergraduate was EXTREMELY rare - I scored 80% on my undergrad. project and there is no way I could have published it. Secondly, all of the review articles I've seen are by people who have had at least twenty years experience in their field!

Hi Wei

Try some Universities in the South of USA, maybe Texas. The academic environment looks friendly (so far) and they have good programs. I just started an Economics program in the University of Texas and it was not easy to get into the program, but still I believe that you may have a good chance. Good luck!

PhD requirements

Hi Silvia, what is your field? Although a masters is not usually required for PhD admission in science (if you have a 2.1 or a first), it may be required if you are wishing to study non-science subjects such as Arts or History.
