I was told on the first day that I should be ready to publish within 6 months of starting. I know what I'm capable of and don't need a supervisor to tell me I need a couple of years before I'm ready to produce quality work. I'm capable of quality right now and appreciate that my supervisor's recognise that.

I agree with gingerly- there's no need to be rude or unhelpfull or make fun of people just because you think they're offensive. Just ignore those posts. What I don't quite understand is why you feel so offended- these posts are not directed at you personally.

Maybe look at Computational Biology, Biostatistics or Bioinformatics, Biophysics.

I always bought my own pens and folders etc. I suppose if you have a nice fat consumables grant and your project is producing reams of paper requiring lots of expensive box files then you have a case for asking your supervisor to get you some using the grant.

If you are in the EU you will be eligible for a good few of the projects on offer. You will also be able to teach as well, if the opportunities are available. Good luck

a stress relieving yellow rubber duck I squeeze when it all get to much, loads of papers I need to read, pens, a car park permit application form that I never seem to get round to sending in.
