Feeling down

Don't worry, leave it for now, move on to the next step. Then come back to it when your mind is fresh. Often looking at the same thing over and over again you start going blind towards it. Get a senior to read your protocol. Better still, your library should have a copy thesis's for previous students who may have done the same protocol! Most PhD's vary only slightly within a department. Best of Luck!

PhDs in industry

Oh and don't forget a lot of unis are still only just starting their academic year so are still getting the new students in. Give it about a month and you'll start seeing more for entry next year.

PhDs in industry

Hi there Kat ! Well, I assume you're a UK student. So a good marker for industrial projects is those offering CASE studentships. These are PhDs that involve both uni and industry time (and pay quite well too *wink*). What area are you looking to do a PhD in ?

Funding - Social Science
G

Tis okay Mia. At least you've had the initiative to realise that ERSC funding isn't available and have apologised to stop me, Stu, H et al from whinging. Do not government institutions sometimes offer funding for IR type things ?

I agree with you there, H. It's also the fact that there are dozens of posts exactly the same and they haven't taken the initiative to read any of these and take the advice. Like H says, it's right under their noses if they bothered to have the sense to actually look.

is there a list of PHD studentships funded by industry?

Funding - Social Science

Sorry for the 'do my funding research for me' type post, but does anyone know of any funding oportunities for social sciences (specifically international relations) aside from studentships? Not eligible for ERSC.

My Supervisor has proposed
G

Mina, I assume that you're not originally from the UK (here they use the word "propose" to mean "marriage" and not dating etc). I really hope your supervisor is not taking advantage of this fact. Do you really like him or are you worried that if you say no he will not be such a good supervisor?

Gingerly, it's called common sense, what you would expect a PhD student to have. The reason so many people are getting annoyed is rather than someone just asking for a PhD, why cant they just look it up? There is a search section on this site, you can't really miss it, agreed? There is also a section for international funding. The answers are right under their noses, why don't they see them?

G

yep, absolutely. Especially now that I'm in my final year and everthing takes about five times longer than I expect it to. What can you do but keep trying?

Late starter!
G

Emmy, don't think about the age. It's not late for you. So many people start PhD in their late twenties and complete it their early thirties.
I wish you luck...

Again, where is all of this anger coming from. Yes, so you have had to work hard getting into your PhD. Now why can't you share some of your experience? Even if its saying "Try looking here" without belittling or insulting people. If you are so sick of reading it, you know you could just stop!
